foreword Youth is unconsciously growing, building, changing every second of every day of every year. And as the swift seasons roll, a new image is formed, unnoticed until it blossoms into maturity, leaving behind the past. But the past is never truly left behind, for it blends into the present so closely that it is not visible. The truths taught, the opportunities presented, the constant growth in knowledge and de- mocracy are representative of the Greenville High school that lives and grows with its students as they build their lives. In this continuous expansion, students are given opportunities to delve into new facts, associate with friends, participate in student government, contribute to activities, and prepare for coming years. They pour their energy, talents, and dreams into linking today with tomorrow. The Nautilus staff has attempted to portray this development through a theme of Build Thee, taken from Oliver Wendell Holmes' famous poem, The Chambered Nautilus, for which this yearbook was named.
