FAC U LTY LI F E-Ccontinuedb HOME ECONOMICS Miss llaroline Mauldiu, Head Miss Vera Buruette Miss 'Ruth Jessup AIMS ln our courses in home economics, we try to teach or brine' out characteristics in the girl that are important for successful and happy living. Most high school and college students have rather definite plans for the time when they leave school. Some may plan to enter the business worldg others will probably continue living in their present homes. Not many will plan to marry immediately and establish homes of their own. At first thought, it may not seem important for these students to study home economics. However, if we look ahead into the lives of these students who enter upon business careers, we find that, although much of their time is consumed by their work, not all of it by any means is. They may be successful and happy in their work, but no one can be completely happy, no matter how successful in a business way, unless she enjoys a comfortable and satisfactory home life, Each of these young people must spend some portion of time in a home, whether it be only one room or a twenty-room house. And the home, small or large, will be comfortable and happy depending upon the degree of ability which the individual has as a home-maker. lt depends largely upon ourselves whether or not we build the right kind of home life. Since everyone must do his share in creating a satisfactory home life, whether she lives alone, with her family, or with friends, it is desirable that each high school student should study home-making. In our high school, home economics is given as an elective COLIFSC. This usually makes it easier for the home economics teacher, as we get students who are interested in this type of work. However, there are many students who do not know enough about home economics to be interested in it. Most likely these students are the ones who need this subject the most. Some schools require each girl student to study this course at least for one year. They have found that most of the girls will choose it the following year and the ones who do not will realize the importance of the subject. In the last few years, the modern boy has seen that he is quite as vitally concerned in home-making as his sister, both for his present and his future life, so many schools are offering home economics to boys as well as girls. Several G. H. S. boys are enrolled in our courses HUWV,
