dl I il? lb lb ll lb QL QL 4. .5 .- F uu Uuiii r T E TIL MARION HAWK CRAIG CAPTAIN-CENTER Winner Hole Most Valuable Player Trophy All-State Marion was awarded the Hale trophy as the most valuable player of 1938, and thus automatically became cap- tain for the season. He was also chosen on the official All-State eleven in his senior year and played in the All-Star game between North and South Carolina teams in Charlotte. Hawk was a mainstay in the fore- wall with his brilliant offensive play and ferocious tackling. He has man- aged the pivotal position on the Electric team for two years and has done a great job of it. There was none worthier to lead the South Caro- lina state champions than this high- spirited lineman. WALTER Boo'rY PAYNE BACK Winner Hunter Blocking Trophy All-State Walter, known to his friends as Booty because of his superb kick- ing ability, is one of those few lads who will go down in the history of Greenville High as a truly great foot- ball player. He started his pigskin career while only a freshman, rising to stardom overnight. Besides win- ning the Hunter blocking trophy for 1938, Booty has been selected on the All-State teams for the past three years and was also picked on the All- Southern squad in his junior year. He is hailed as the greatest punter ever to climb into a Red Raider uni- form. Always a big, strapping boy, he led the individual scoring for the Electrics during the past two years, counting 93 points this season. His all-round teamwork and cooperation have played a big part in bringing the coveted state championship to G-. H. S. for the first time in history.
