Rfb: co S1-'JU agdil amos- mio SQ.: An extra large squad of over seventy gridsters reported to head coach GlSpeedy Speer for the initial workout. And from this crowd of veterans and green recruits, Mentor Speer and his worthy assistant, James Slick Moore, moulded one of the greatest elevens ever to wear the Red and White uniform. A glance into the record books reveals a season of eight wins and only two losses, both defeats being at the hands of out-of-state combines. A big, heavy backfield, that really moved, rolled up 215 points in 10 encounters compared to 34 for the opponents. Only two state .teams were able to score through the big Red line, which proves the real quality of the Raiders. The fact that the Speermen traveled through, over, and around the enemy line for 2,514 yards shows a marked superiority. In the way of first downs, the Raiders made 94 during the season, while their oppon- ents managed to make only 54. Consequently, the Electrics could receive no less honor than that of being crowned as the 1938 football champions of South Carolina.
