Chris Cogswell, Sue Kropewnicki and Sandy Muns are singing Spanish Christmas carols at the Student Council-sponsored Christmas assembly. Trip to Mexico Highlights Year For Spanish Club The Spanish Club participated in the Homecoming parade this year. Several members dressed as Spanish gypsies. In the fall, the club heard one of its members, Mary Vining, speak about her trip to Spain. Students saw pictures and slides of Spain and tried to read Spanish newspapers. During the Christmas season members visited the patients at the extended care facility at the hospital and sang Spanish Christmas carols to them. At one meeting, members watched Spanish movies and saw Spanish filmstrips. Many of the members went to Mexico with Mrs. Clay during spring vacation. Spanish Club activities ended with a Spanish Fiesta in May. Quebec Trip Highlights Year for French Club The 9th and 10th grade members of French Club were—Row 1: Kristina Updike, Marjean Holmes, Cathy Lyndrup, Alicia Lund, Tracy Herron, Bill Palmer, Shane Hansen, Beth Shotwell, Bob Dumond, Louis Hamper and Chris Cantwell. Row 2: Nancy Taylor, Debbie Diehl, Debbie Reed, JoEllen Skytta, Marie Williams, Judy Taylor, Nancy Green, Mary Braman, Nancy Hansen, Brenda Swartz, Tom Olsen and Glenn Rittenger. Row 3: Jo Rae Lamb, Betsy Caverly, Julie House, Mary Jane Hansen, Marie Wise, Teresa Horrocks, Shelly Newberg, Cheryl Oberhelman, Nancy Brace, Mike Ceccanese, Gregg Weber, Mike Turnbull, Kent Morford, Chris Ranney and Bill Minard. French Club this past year held many new activities for its members. There was a cheese-tasting party for all the gourmets, a Christmas party for the brothers and sisters of the French Club members, a candle lighting ceremony at the Christmas assembly, they held a Monte Carlo and ended it all up with the annual banquet. Many members went to Quebec during spring vacation. 160

Row 3: Mrs. Johnson, advisor; Sue Kluzak, Jeannie Takens, Sue Czarnopis, Michele Staffen, Judy Reynolds, Julie Hamper, Lisa Fierens, Julie Fierens and Miss LaValley, assistant advisor. Row 4: Joyce Fluegge, Alicia Lund, Kim Moore, Diane Plantamura, Dana Brown,Collen Green, Joyce Takens, Cheri Rivett, Terri Claflin, Karen Moore and Lori Jorgensen. Terri Claflin, Jean Madsen, Dana Brown and Joyce Fluegge are talking over team strategy at a GAA meeting. Lisa Fierens, Sue Jorgensen, Lori Jorgensen and Julie Fierens were on one of the basketball teams this past year. The purpose of Girl’s Athletic Association is to give girls a chance to participate in a sport or sports that she is interested in. This past year GAA sold chocolate candy bars and traveled to Grand Rapids to the YWCA to go swimming. Also, there were volleyball and basketball tournaments.
