The J. V. team complied an outstanding 8—1 record, which can be accredited to a fine performance of the entire squad. Some individuals deserve special recognition: fullbacks Jim Wolverton and Frank Gibson exhibited exceptional drive and determination; co-captains A1 Brown and Wayne Pierantoni provided excellent team leadership; end Paul Bidstrup’s fine catches greatly aided the team. Certainly, the fine coaching of Mr. Tungate and Mr. West also sparked the team to success. GREENVILLE 14 BELDING 13 GREENVILLE 7 ST. VARSITY BASKETBALL Row 1: Rick Williams, Ed Shroyer, Bob VanSycle, Mike Nelson, Tom Hansen, Gary Sewell. Row 2: Coach Fox, Dave Trusdale, Mike Delp, Del Cory, Dave Stien, Dave Skinner, John Heinzelman, John Nel son. Coach Fox Co-Captains John Nelson and Rick Williams at one of the pep assemblies. This year’s basketball season started on a high note with two wins over Beiding 60-58, and St. Johns 56-54. From then on the team had some pretty tough nights. It was not until five losses later that we came up on the winning end again. This time it was Lakeview that fell to the Jackets 76-73. Greenville then came on strong in the last half of the season beating Charlotte, Alma and league champs Hastings finishing with a 7-9 record. The team really looked ready for the tournament but after a well played game against Central Montcalm we were eliminated in a close game with Cedar Springs and the season came to a close.
