Warner has taught and guided students in Greenville high school for twenty-four years. Before becoming princi- pal he was a teacher of various subjects including chemistry and biology. Mr. Warner received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State Universi- ty in 1918. In 1931 he was awarded his Master of Arts degree from Miami Uni- versity. Page Nine Superintendent Mr. Robert Duncan completed his second year in the Green- ville public school system. He was associated with the West Milton schools for seventeen years prior to his coming here. Mr. Duncan graduated from Ohio State in 1934 with a Bache- lor of Arts degree in liberal arts. In 1942 he received his Master of Arts degree, majoring in school administration. PAUL C. WARNER Languages Three modern and one classical language are taught in the beginning and advanced form in our high school. French, German, and Spanish are conducted to bring about a firmer relationship with and a better under- standing of these countries, their people, and their habits. Latin is designed to give the students a wider cultural background and to help them better their understanding of the English language through vocabulary study. JOHN E. A Soc Greenville high school's social science department consists of five subjects: civics, sociology, world history, U. S. history and family relations. These subjects are taught to students to acquaint them with the past, remind them of the present and to prepare them for the future. JOHN W. GLUNT ORPHA PALMER Home Economics Vocational Agriculture Vocational Home Economics Home Economics - Agriculture The home economics department offers to girls four years of instruction in cooking, sewing, home nursf ing, first aid, and mother and hahy care. Aid to personal experience is given in a well equipped kitchen and sewing room. Boys in agriculture receive four years of training in dairy farming, farm shop, animal husbandry, and crop farming. They receive much practical experience hy having projects. Page Fifteen M usic and Art These subjects offer to students a chance to display their talent in music or art. Instrumental music provides Greenville high school with a marching hand, a concert band and an orchestra. Vocal music gives the school a group concert and an A Cappella choir. Art helps students further their ahilitv in painting, clay and soap modeling, shading, cartooning, and de- signing. They provide the school with scenery and puhlicitv for social events. RAUDABAUGH Arithmetic English English Arithmetic Junior High The junior high department is extremely important as it aids the younger students in deciding what course they wish to enter into when they reach high school age. Arithmetic, geography, history, English, literature, home economics, for girls and shop training for boys, are a few of the required subjects. This department is carried on similar to the upper four grades only on a smaller scale. lt helps students prepare for one of the most important times in their lives, High School. Page Nineteen QM! VF V........... Marching Band Greenville High School's marching band under the direction of Glen johnson per' forms at all home football games and haskethall games. The hand also partici- pates in the Annual Band Festival. Featured performers of the hand are the Niajorettes. S. Football Coaches Coach James Eby, a 1943 graduate of Otterbein, came to Greenville High in 1952, succeeding Paul Dellerba as head football coach. After graduating from Gtterbein in 1943, Coach Eby became a Navy pilot. In 1946 he was discharged from the Navy and became head football coach at Trotwood Madistvn where he stayed until he came to Greenville. Coach Ben Cole, a graduate of Miami University and a member of Miami's varsity basketball squad, came to G. H. S. in 1952 succeeding Jack Raudabaugh as head basketball coach. After graduating from Miami in 1947 Mr. Cole spent two years in the Marines. He was discharged in 1949 and became head basketball coach at Miltoii Union where he coach- ed until he came to Greenville. ln addition to his duties as basketball coach Mr. Cole serves as assistant football coach, tennis coach, assistant track coach, gym instructor, and public health instructor. Coach Tony Derocko graduated from Wittenberg College in 1952. At Witteiiberg he was an outstanding player on the gridiron. In his senior year at Wittenberg be was voted by his team mates the most valuable player of the year. After graduating from college he accepted his first coaching job at Butler Township School where he coaches junior high basketball and track. Although Mr. Derocko was not a member of the Greenville High School faculty he spent many hours helping coach the G. H. S. varsity football team. Janitors The janitors spend much time in keeping the interior and exterior of our school neat and clean. They remain long after the students have left. Page Thirty-Three Girls' basketball and volleyball teams were started this year with the help of Miss Janet Allison, girls' gym instructor. There was a reserve and varsity team in both sports. The girls played West Milton, Tipp City, Troy, Sidney, and Piqua. Sheila O'Brien and Joyce Denniston were captains of the varsity volleyball and basketball teams respectively. QA Hi-Y President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer Reporter The Hi-Y, as a division of the Young Men's Christian Association, strives to maintain clean actions, clean deeds, clean speech, and clean athletics. Every year the Y. M. C. A. council holds a series of district meetings. This year the local chapter had the dutv of electing the secretary for these meetings. Robert Buchv was elected. One of Hi-Y's contributions to the school calendar this year included an interesting talk by a man who had traveled and lived in Alaska. The purpose of the ushers of Greenville High School is to conduct people to their reserved seats at all public performances and to conduct formal dismissal at all assemblv programs. The ushers are a group of thirteen girls having the highest scholastic standing at the end of their third vear in high school. Members of the stage are on hand at all events held in the Memcmrial Hall. They run the lights and serve as property men. Oliver The German Club was reorganized in 1935, after being disbanded in l9l8. Its purpose is to promote an interest in German speaking nations and their people. During the vear several movies of Germany have been shown to familiarize the students with the customs and people of that eountrv. This society was started in G. H. S. by J. E. Oliver in 1946. The purpose of this club is to give recognition to juniors and seniors who have taken or are taking journalism, have done out- standing journalistic work, and are in the upper third of their class. This year the initiation was held at the Reporters' Club banquet instead of during an assembly. It was conducted by the officers of the society and Mr. Oliver presented the initiates their pins. Oliver Track Coach William Woodworth, track, reserve basket- ball, and Junior High School football coach, before coming to Greenville High School spent three and one half years in the submarine division of the United States Navy. After being discharged from the Navy he entered Wittenberg College where he participated in baseball, track, football, and basketball. After graduating in 1950 he took his first job at Greenville as head track coach. Since that time he has steadily built the team into one of the strongest in the Miami Valley. His first year he coached the team to fourth place in the Troy Invita- tional Relays and third place in the Miami Valley League. The following year the team took first place in both of these events. Page Seventy-One Fauna Flora Society ln I9 36 the Fauna Flora Society, whose pur- pose it is to promote an interest in nature among biology students, was established in Greenville High School under the guidance of Miss Helen Deeter, biology instructor. ln addition to maintaining Fauna Flora land, property donated to the club by Mr. YVarner, the club has sponsored a Christmas party, wiener roast, picnic, and the planting ofa magnolia tree on the campus. F u t u I' e F a r m e r s The Greenville Chapter of the Future Farmers of America was organ- ized twenty-four years ago, and is advised by the vocational agriculture Of instructor, Mr. Guy Glunt. It is composed only of boys studying voca- tional agriculture. A m er i C a The purpose of the organization is to promote better rural citizenship through better farm practices and participation in rural activities. The F.F.A. had many activities throughout the year. Among them were the square dance with the F.H.A., a radio broadcast, state highway safety contest, parliamentary procedure contest, and the county, district, and state livestock judging contest.
