The staff selects a theme for the annual, which is carried throughout the book, along with the pictures of classes, activities, sports, students, and faculty members. The work of the staff 'comes in Toki ing the pictures, writing the stories, and putting the book together. By the time The Chief goes to press, the staff feels like one big family seeing a brain child go out into the world. :W-,, 1? 1' 0 Qf,1 5 2 L Q Q fa Faculty Advisor Elizabeth Menke 54, m -4 cn no rn ' 52:f5:U2Q22525C5Q ,, .,.'2.'Q,Q.of2.22.-'z.:2.2,Q.: C 2'3'f+'S'3L5'w3'33'5333'3 Q 3-:x 3 sm:--:rn:3: O-.. -,En--fg,-+3-+V,-f -,Q gs 6J x:Q53'Pa??E3 2 QQ. DONALD WAS THE SON OF MR. AND MRS. PERRY McNUTT OF R. R. 5, GREENVILLE, OHIO, AND A MEMBER OF THE CLASS OF l945. Our junior year was a big one, tor now vve were on The third floor. We had a class play to put on, rings and pins to select, and the Junior-Senior Prom to plan tor. We had a big iob ahead ot us, so we elected Lowell Stebbins, presi- dent, Jim Holzaptel, vice president, Janet Horn, secretary, Dick Westerman, treasurer, and Janet Littman, reporter. Our class play was The Doctor has a Daughter, directed by Miss Boyer. ' And now it's The year l944-45. We're seniors and about to leave G. H. S. to take our places in The world. Several members ot our class have already left to ioin the armed services. Our election was held on the party basis, with Bill Elliott and Janet Horn coming out on top, as president and vice-president. The rest of the party consisted ot Janet Littman, secretary, Jim Holzaptel, treas- urer, and Jane Booth, reporter. We elected our Annual Staff and started it oft right by breaking all records in our drive for magazine subscriptions. The Annual Play, directed by Miss Alexander, was also a huge success. It was the exciting mystery, Tiger House. Our class party was held on Friday, the thirteenth, lust as our treshman party was, and we are still having pretty good luck. Membership in the organization is open to any girl in the school. To retain membership and to obtain numerals and G's the girls must earn a designated number of points. The highest award given is a small cup with the girl's name en- graved on it. During football season, the girls had the refresh- ment stand at the stadium. The money received helps to carry on the work of the club. On Thanksgiving Eve the members and their escorts enioyed the informal Cotton Ball. Among the community services were peeling to- matoes at the Glen Karn cannery during the national emergency and making up Christmas baskets for needy people in Greenville. The excess toys were given to the County Children's Home. Throughout the year club activities consisted of a Hobo Hike in the fall, Christmas caroling, a spring play day and annual awards meeting which concluded activities for the year. The newest club within the club is archery. Mem- bers purchased equipment for six girls and made some of their own arm and finger guards and quivers. In the spring an archery meet was held, shooting through a Columbia Round. Second row: Sh rives, chell, Littman, Ca ron , man. Third row: Stauffer Weaver, Bennett, Trick. This year's football team was the first team in the history of the school to go undefeated and win an undisputed Miami Valley League Championship. Under the able coaching of Ray Swope and Eddie Stoltz the team walked over nine straight teams. The outstanding game was with Dayton Fairmont at the end of the season. Fairmont lost but one game and was expected to give the Waves a real battle. The final score was i3 to O, giving Greenville its unblemished record, Two other games stand out in the minds of the fans. The second game of the season was played at Celina with the Green Wave barely nosing out the home team i4 to 13. In the lvliamisburg game the Greenville players showed they had what it takes to come from behind and win. At the end of the first half the Burg was ahead 7 to O. A fighting Wave team came back the last half scoring 32 points while holding lvliamisburg scoreless. This year's team gained recognition throughout the state, but besides this two boys gained special recognition. They were John Pequignot and Tom Hunt. Both of these boys were named on All- State teams. John was the team's captain and played halfback, while Tom opened holes in the line from a tackle position. Sports have a place in the make-up of every school. They give the boys the will to win, good sportsmanship, and character. All of these traits were shown by Greenville High School's champion- ship team. if 22 -if Q Coach Raymond Swope Manager Chuck Schmermund Foofball Line-up Assisfoni Coach Edwin Sfolfz Second String-Fooiball I' Top row: Black, Miller, Faulkner Lammers, Rhaades, Marshall, Corle, Vanatfa, Lakin.
