and ar1thmet1c and flavored w1th a touch of art mus1c and soc1alstud1es 54 Greenv1lle and 7 Durham students became Freshmen 1n 1955 Str1v1ng to emulate our elders we elected the follow1ng class off1cers B1ll Moore Presldent Ph1l Palmer, VICE Pres1dent Ken Duncan, Secretary and L1nda S1nger Treasurer Marla Stevens a.nd Jerry Ad1no1f1 reported on the mysterxes and pleasures of G C S n1ght l1fe yet to come, as our Jumor Prom attendants Prodded upward and onward by M1ss Wooster 1n Zll, and by Mr Sm1th and, subsequently Mrs Slmgerland 1n the Lab Qbut mostly by MISS Woosterl we entered our Sophomore year W1th the help of our new class off1cers, Jerry Ad1no1f1 Pres1dent Marla Stevens VICE Pres1dent Sandra F1eld Secretary and Mary Parks Treasurer our treasury went from the p1ggy bank stage to a checkmg account thanks to our soc1al debut as sponsors of the Cup1d's Hop on February 15 1956 Mary concealed the net ga1n for 1ncome tax purposes, but the dance w1ll be remembered as both prof1table and enjoyable 1n the annals of G C S h1story Jerry Ad1no1f1 aga1n was a Jun1or Prom attendant th1s t1me w1th L1nda Smger on h1s arm Scholast1cally, we made our mark when Roberta Ingalls Mary Parks and Jerry Ad1no1f1 were elected to the Greenv111e Chapter of the Nat1onal Honor SOC16ty Our success as Sophomores was 1nsp1red by our pat1ent adv1sors Mr Ford 1n 210 and MISS Brown 1n the Lab At the close of the year Danny B1shop, D1ane Lee and Betty Labelle left our hallowed walls, our crowded halls and our stream l1ned lunch groups for the rxgors of the cold, cold world Curt Cunnmgham took a one year leave of abs en c e to attend m111tary school Jun1or year, we were led by Earl S1mpk1ns, Pres1dent Jerry Ad1no1f1, V1ce President Mary Parks Secretary and Marla Stevens Treasurer W1th MISS Magg1o and Mr Bla1sdell as advlsors, we nearly met our match, however The Autumn Leaves dance held on October 4 and chaperoned by Mr and Mrs Joseph Albano Mr and Mrs Floyd Parks, and Mrs Gerald Ad1no1f1 strengthened our reputatlon as purveyors of the best 1n soc1al ente rta1nme nt It also added S116 to our grow1ng treasury On March 29 we sponsored athoroughlysuccessful 'All Star Game The lad1es ofthe class defeated the sen1or g1rls at basketball and S148 was added to the bank account The All Star boys defeated the Sen1or bas ketball team An enjoyable record hop followed the games May 9 By means of lobb1es, br1bery, and d1sregarded legal advxce Mardl Gras was chosen as 1ts theme Poss1bly th1s expla1ns our net prof1t of only S24 However, the success of a Jun1or Prom must be measured by the pleasure rece1ved rather than 1nc1dental f1nanc1 al ga1n The chaper one s were Mr a.nd Mrs John S1nger Mr and Mrs Maxwell Palmer Mr and Mrs Lawrence Naughton and Mr and Mrs Russell Baumann Jerry Admolh Gene Coogan and J1mmy Klley Jean Kelly, L1nda S1nger and Marla Stevens were chosen as cand1dates for Kmg and Queen, respect1vely On the n1ght of the Prom Jack1e Van Auken and Barbara Baker passed the1r crowns over to Gene and Marla By eleven o'c1ock the dance floor was abandoned to the Chaperones and Faculty and we went off for our late dates at Osterhout's and the Catal1na Lounge Durmg the year, tr1ps were made to R P I and I B M under the ausp1ces ofthe Math and SCICHCC Departments Our scholast1c record was ma1nta1ned by the elect1on of Marla Stevens B111
