Graduation from high school indicates that you have successfully completed 12 years of work in the public school system. Your diploma is a testimony of your achievement, To graduate has required work, study, and sacrifice on your part. Your graduation also represents a tremen- dous expenditure of time, energy, and money on the part of others. The State, the community, and Board of Education, and your teachers and parents have all contributed willingly and gladly toward your education because your life is an investment in America and its future. I believe that as a citizen you will assume your duties and responsibilities seriously and cheerfully. I believe, too, that your education has prepared you to perform them efficiently.
