DEDHCATIIUN MR. WARREN G. DAVIS We dedicate this ' ' issue of the Pioneer to Warren G. Davis, Greenvil1e's beloved Art Instructor to whom the class of '55 will forever be grateful for his help throughout the past years. Artists may produce excellent designs but 'll ' , wi avail little unless the public is sufficiently culti- vated to appreciate them, -Mason

'Lv FLUREYVUPD We are forever building things skyscrapers, highways bridges, and our own lives Whatever is truly alive is engaged in improving itself through some form of change or construction It is around this theme that we have built this book This year, especially, Construction is animportant and timely sub- ject. We see its simpliest form as we watch the new addition of the school going up. We will observe its deeper meaning throughout life, We might say that, during these past twelve years of school we have been given the mortar and stone as well as a solid foundation, What kind of a life we shall build from this only we can decide. We shall be the architects, the contractors, and the tenants of our careers. Ours will be the plan and the labor - the world will share in the ultimate reward. We hope that this book may serve to remind us, not only of the past, but of our debt to the future. It is not a memorial to the class of 1955: it is an unfinished record of our early life. Perhaps several blank pages should have been added to this book - pages on which the remainder of our record may be kept. Only on these pages may someday the full extent of our accomplishments be estimated.

Graduation from high school indicates that you have successfully completed 12 years of work in the public school system. Your diploma is a testimony of your achievement, To graduate has required work, study, and sacrifice on your part. Your graduation also represents a tremen- dous expenditure of time, energy, and money on the part of others. The State, the community, and Board of Education, and your teachers and parents have all contributed willingly and gladly toward your education because your life is an investment in America and its future. I believe that as a citizen you will assume your duties and responsibilities seriously and cheerfully. I believe, too, that your education has prepared you to perform them efficiently. May you ever be mindful of your great American heritage and of your individual responsibility in perpetuating and improving the American way of life and its Christian ideals, ELWOOD HITCHCOCK Superintendent of Schools SCOTT M, ELLIS p Supervising Principal , As graduates of Greenville Central School soon to become community leaders, you must strive to l realize your responsibility to one another, your duty to your neighbor, and the necessity of belief and trust in God and communion with Him. The destiny I of the future rests on you and on the other millions of your age. You must remember that only goodness and character endure through all ages. When dis- couraged, or downhearted, may I suggest Psalm 121: 'I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills From whence cometh my help, My help cometh from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. '
