CLASS HJISTURY As we review the panorama of exciting events, both academic and extracurricular, of the past four years, we the architects feel both the pride of accomplishment and the sadness that always attends the end of an era, The year 1950 found us enthusiastic Freshmen, foregoing our way through the new experiences of high school. The Magazine Drive, our first challenge, was a victory as we achieved first place. Our Durham colleagues joined us, and we were the first to enjoy the new cafeteria and classrooms added in 1951. Our Sophomore year was heralded amid renewed enthusiasm as we enjoyed the humorous All-Star Game, The Round-Robin held at our school in 1952 was well attended. 'I'hen almost without our realization, the Sophomore stage of our climb toward gradua- tion was completed. The favor of our Junior year included a Sadie Hawkins Dance. We enjoyed a financial and social success in this, our First affair of that kind. National Honor Society, Modem Problems Club, and the trip to Saratoga with our basketball champions exhausted even more of our now limited time. Our Prom Hawaiian Nights was a fitting climax to our previous triumphs. Shirley Babcock and Walter Birmann reigned over the pleased populace and danced to the strains of Tangerine, Following the summer hiatus, our Senior Year was upon us, Soon we would be the latest alumni of our Alma Mater. September, 1954 foimd us eagerly awaiting our class rings. The production of More than Meets the Eye' was a financial success and caused many a lifted eyebrow. We set a new precedent by having a Senior Ball on December 11, fittingly entitled the Senior Snow Ball, On April 16, the Seniors retumed from an eventfully tour of their national capital. The fun of the Senior Trip combined with the numerous opportunities, both cultural and practical, for furthering our education, left us with the feeling that we had come, we had won, we had conquered. Our carefree days were numbered: the real challenge of life lay in die question mark of the future. We the class of 1955 had the good fortune to see the new additions and improvements to our school as they were made. We are indeed the veterans of the Construction Era, As Commencement recedes into the haze of the past, the graduates of our class will follow the motto Born Americans, Live Americans, Die Americans, as they translate what they have leamed into a pennanent design for living.
