Here is where one sees for hiniself how things really look. ln the laboratory the biology class dissects frogs, worms, iish, and studies bacteria hy the use of slides. This is always a lively room, made so not only by the pupils themselves hut hy other lively creatures of nature-snak- es, lmgs, etc. When this picture was taken Mrs. Loy, the laboratory teacher, was absent and Mrs. Pickett was substituting for her. Seventy-one girls are signed up in the home ec. department where they wish to learn how to Keep the Home Fires Burning in their future years. Many suh- jects are studied here: such as, clothing, home nursing, c h i l d care, housing, and cooking and meal planning. Improvements hav e b e e n made in this department this year. The girls made curtains for the sewing room, kitchen, and cafeteria. New equipment in the way of a new iron and a portahle e 1 e c t 1' i c sewing machine was added. Mrs. Uarter has just com- pleted her second year as in- structor of this department. In spite of serious handicaps caused hy shortages in materials, the shop offered a General Shop Mechanics Course which proved to he popular. This course in- cluded elementary mecha n i c a l drawing. soldering, wiring, and electricity. A C t u al practice in house wiring and huilding model electric motors was gg i v en t he hoys. A c o m p l e t e array of new power tools makes the shop up- to-date. Here are the boys that dust your desks and clean up your mess. Fred has heen sweeping these halls and rooms for four years. Ilesides all their inside work these hoys have outside odd jobs! such as, mowing the lawn and shoveling snow. Un 'those cold wintry mornings you didn't want to come to school.
