The library has taken on the appearance of a real library. 'l he walls have been newly paint- ed and the furniture has been reefinished. Venetian blinds have taken the plaee of the rnll blinds and a new dictionary stand built by the shop boys makes studying more convenient. Our librarian, Mrs. Hudson, make is capable and strives to the library pf real service to the st-linol and the eommunity. The typing classes are al- ways crowded. Typewriters are at a premium. This class of buys has had te take in the nverflnw frein the girls elass. The selniel furnishes these elasres their typ- ing bunk and paper. The t'omn:ereial department, including hnpkkeeping and short- hand as well as typing, is pre paring many nf our boys and girls for the business world. This industrious greu p of students is one pf the must i1n- pertant classes of the high selnml. ln this elass, they learn citizenship, how tp be good eiti- Zens, and what is expevted of them frem their e 0 u n t 1' y. Ile- eause it gave them sueh a won- derful nppprtunity fer expressing their opinion and ber-ause they tank the opportunity, these stu- dents will be more eapable pf taking part in their lueal and natiunal gnvernment. Fur the first time, this year the students had a elmiee tif 'Psyeliology ur E 1' 0110111 ies for their second semester subject. Our cafeteria serves appetiz- ing meals tu a large number of teachers and students each day. Altlleiigli nur cafeteria is not latte, olll' vuuks, MPS. ll:l1'Ve5' Street and Miss Edna Mess, do an excellent job. Mrs. Street came here in lil-H when we were freshmen and has served thrpugh our high svlmpl days. Miss Moss joined Mrs. Street this year. Mrs. Car- ter, Home lCeun1nnies siipervisar assists the melts by planning the menu for eaeh day. Several of the seventh and eighth grade girls help serve in the eafeteria. This year a new arrange- ment nf the equipment and some new C u rta i n s brightened the eafeteria.
Here is where one sees for hiniself how things really look. ln the laboratory the biology class dissects frogs, worms, iish, and studies bacteria hy the use of slides. This is always a lively room, made so not only by the pupils themselves hut hy other lively creatures of nature-snak- es, lmgs, etc. When this picture was taken Mrs. Loy, the laboratory teacher, was absent and Mrs. Pickett was substituting for her. Seventy-one girls are signed up in the home ec. department where they wish to learn how to Keep the Home Fires Burning in their future years. Many suh- jects are studied here: such as, clothing, home nursing, c h i l d care, housing, and cooking and meal planning. Improvements hav e b e e n made in this department this year. The girls made curtains for the sewing room, kitchen, and cafeteria. New equipment in the way of a new iron and a portahle e 1 e c t 1' i c sewing machine was added. Mrs. Uarter has just com- pleted her second year as in- structor of this department. In spite of serious handicaps caused hy shortages in materials, the shop offered a General Shop Mechanics Course which proved to he popular. This course in- cluded elementary mecha n i c a l drawing. soldering, wiring, and electricity. A C t u al practice in house wiring and huilding model electric motors was gg i v en t he hoys. A c o m p l e t e array of new power tools makes the shop up- to-date. Here are the boys that dust your desks and clean up your mess. Fred has heen sweeping these halls and rooms for four years. Ilesides all their inside work these hoys have outside odd jobs! such as, mowing the lawn and shoveling snow. Un 'those cold wintry mornings you didn't want to come to school.
