On November 15 and 16 the GCHS Players be¬ gan their 84-85 season with Act 3, a presenta¬ tion of three one act plays. The curtain rose at the Elementary School Auditorium with Lemon¬ ade, a play about two middle-aged women, Jill Newsome, Beth Barnes, who their lives have been less than satisfying. The second play of the evening, The Oyster and the Pearl, re¬ volved around the lesson a young girl, Clara, Beth Johnson, taught the new school teacher, Cheryl Bailey, along with the help of the town barber, Donnie Doyle. Additional cast included Bryan Soles as Clara ' s little brother, Rufus, Claretta Nix as Gretchen, Robin Jarratt as Clara and Rufus’ father, Mark Williams as Judge Applegarth, Sandi Soles as Wozeck, and David Roberts as the writer. The production closed with Death Knocks which presented Shelitta Butts as a clumsy Death and Nelda Nix as a self-confident b usinesswoman, Natalie, whom Death has come to conquer, only to be challenged and defeated at Gin Rummy which allows Natalie another day, if not more, of life. An addition to their acting duties, Sandi Soles, David Roberts, Mark Williams and Robin Jarratt provided live music during set changes. Rob Black, Karen Short, and Pam Harrison with as¬ sistance from cast members worked diligently to make the scene changes smooth and rapid. Under the direction of GCHS Players ' sponsor Julia Jordan, and through the hard work of the cast and crew, Act 3 made an auspicious start of the Players ' year. 4 Plays
