As we began our walk, we were humble. Each step we took gave us new confidence and faith, and as we grad- uated from one palr of shoes to another, the path became smoother. The friendships we've made, the knowledge we've gained, and the fun we've had have gone into making ours a successful walk. As graduation draws nearer and we realize an important part of our walk through life will soon be at its end, we would like to leave., to the underclassmen something of our journey in hopes that they have a smoother walk. We present this Riparian to portray in words and pictures our walk through high school from the first few steps to the end of the path. In doing this, we hope to keep alive the spirit of the Senior Class of 1957 and the goal they have accomplished. Joyce Williams, Presidentp Mary Lee Howard, Vice-Presidentp Jean Grizzard, Secretaryg Jean Bradley, Treasurerg Sandra Whitley, Reporterg Elaine Downs, Chaplaing Diane Newsome, Chaplaing Mrs. Vassar, Sponsor, The Tri-I-Ii-Y and Hi-Y Clubs have sponsored many successful projects and have tried to c reate a Christian atmosphere among the student body. This year, as in the past, they have served at Homecoming, had the blessing over the inter-com, decorated the bulletin boards, pre- pared Christmas baskets for the needy, sponsored a Halloween party, and conducted pre-Easter services and the Easte r Sunrise Service. This year they sponsored pre-Christmas services which they hope will become an annual part of the Hi-Y program. The Emporia clubs had the largest representation at the District Conference in Richmond, at which Juliette Belmonte, president, presided. At this time, Ellen Powell was elected as dis - trictvice-president for 1957-58 and Betsy Joyner was elected as journal clerk of Model General Assembly for 1956-57. Delegates were sent to Model General Assembly and Blue Ridge Leadership Conference. The clubs have found that by working through a council composed of the presidents, sponsors, and a representative from each club, their projects can be carried out in a more effective manner.
