CLASS OF FIFTY-FIVE Way back in the later thirties, Before the days of World War Two There were born the boys and flirties Whom in future years were due To be the Class of Fifty-Five. Through the months and years they trampled Down the halls of Greensville High Loads and heaps of learning sampled Trudged they long with many a sigh To be the Class of Fifty-Five. Filled with dreams of hope and yearning Boys and girls so dutifully bright Went they forward, eager, burning To the lamp of wisdom, light To be the Class of Fifty-Five. From the storied buildings on the banks Of Meherrin stream and shore To the new High School with thanks Seeking knowledge more and more Went the Class of Fifty-Five. Twenty-four girls and twenty-four boys Went they onward, ready to face, A world with all its trials, joys Eager to fight and run the race Went the Class of Fifty-Five! And so they wrestled Science and Math History, Language, and a yen, To bear the haughty teachers ' wrath And cage the lion in his den. Fearless, the Class of Fifty-Five. Soon now, the end in sight in June, Each Senior ' s heart fills up with hope ' Tis now to study and sweat in tune To top the hill and down the slope. To graduate in Fifty-Five. McDearmon
