It was here that our dreams were born of the day that we, the class of ' 53, would be seniors. We felt big, indeed, when we were asked to join the clubs in high school, and feeling a little lost with the older students, we sat b ick meekly and learned the real value of these clubs. Electing officers for the :lass was new to us, too, for this was the first time that our whole class had asserr led. We felt proud as we elected Darden Livesay, president; Bobby Lucas, vice -president; Mary Lou Harris, secretary; and Baker Harding, treasurer. James Gordon Crumpler Albert Luke Davis, Jr. Nellie Rosa Delbridge n—; ! f-. . - n — iu i i - a i i g: z ■ m i H % — i We worked hard thatyear, but our workwas not in vain. We had a formal dance in March, and it was really a success. We thought we were beautiful in our evening dresses, and to all the girls the boys looked very grown-up in suits and ties. Then came the year when we were real freshmen. We knew our way around school, and we began to realize that it was an honor to be the first class to go to G. C.H.S. for five years. We were led in our freshman year by Mamie Alice Shutt, Elsie Meade Webb, Frances Ann Williams, and Ervin Harris. March rolled around soon, and we had a rainbow dance. The gym really looked pretty decorated with a rainbow against a blue sky with a pot of gold at each end. How well we remember this, and how long ago it seems, almost as if it were a dream!
