Class Hustor When thus gay and carefree class entered the first grade of Salem School un the fall of 1937 we numbered twenty two luxely luttle boys and gurls The school news paper THE ECHO ussued November 12 1937 lusted the followung members of our class as hayung had a perfect attendance for the first sux week peruod Wulluam Beels Dorus Blaur Helen Courson Maxine Duttman Margaret Flemung Roger Meabon Dean Rhoads Lous Rhoads Carl Shakley Grant Sherman Eugene Snuyely Shurley Weeter Davud Wesner Dorus Mae Wulson Walter Duttman and Betty Lou Wfunkler For yaruous reasons we have lost nearly half our orugunal members along the way and gauned few replacements Only one of our present number howeyer was not wuth us when we entered hugh school Thus was Grace Baker who came from North Brad dock and youned us durung our tenth year Robert Mattern had come from Rockland durung our seyenth year In the fall of 1945 our class entered hugh school wuth a membershup of suxteen One of the most umpressuve events of our freshman year was Inutuatuon Day when all of us had to wear our clothes backward That day the sophomores unwusely made us pray for raun and ut came spoulung part of theur plans for the actuvutues of the evenung Those sophomores dud not show us much mercy but we suryuyed Shurley Weeter a member of our class was elected to the cheerung squad thus year Another year and now we are roplmmmer wuth the opportunuty to unutuate the freshmen Soon everythung that we had receuved as freshmen was passed on wuth good measure We made the freshmen wear green stockungs cereal boxes for hats and cloth mg covered wuth patches Durung thus year Salem School presented the first Sprung Pestuyal wuth Helen Whutlung one of our classmates as May ueen and wuth Shurley Weeter as one of her attendants We ended our sophomore year wuth 1 wuener roast at Blaur s Corners Our yunuor year was a busy one Many of us were un the cast of the uunuor senuor play ust Ducky After much controversy we chose our class rungs our motto class flower and class colors We wcre pleased when two from our class Carl and Roger were chosen to go to the PSMA Dustruct Musuc Pestuval at Sluppery Rock Carl was chosen to represent the hugh school at the State Chorus held at Sharon The year ended vuuth thc class goung to Cook s lorest for a pucnuc and wuener roast Early un our senuor year our class decudcd to produce a yearbook for the first tume un the hustory of thc school Wc really had 1 thrullung tume gettung our puctures taken and securung adyertusements for thc book Thus year prov cd to be our busuest Wc pro duced our class play The More 'lhe Merruer sold candy sponsored the raduo enter tauners oe Barkers Chuck Wagon Boys helped wuth the May Fcstuy ul and of course vncre responsublc for that grcatest of all exents Commencemcnt After twclxe happy yc urs we the Cluss of 1949 ure about to separatc and go our uaruous ways as all other classes have done As we go may each of us be guuded by our class motto Onuard and Upuz nd Class Prophecy As I was lazuly strollung down the Boardwalk of Destuny my eyes suddenly were attracted to a sugn whuch read Observe the Ifuture Gaze unto the Crystal Ball Sunce I was anxuous to learn what the Crystal Ball mught foretell of my future and the future of the Class of 49 I hurrued unto the mysteruous luttle shop As I entered unto a dumly o ' - .7 l U . , , . 7 Y 3 3 V .
