However, in the third game with their bitter rival Rushville opponents, the Pirates lost in a game that was thrilling to the final whistle. This defeat seemed to be the turn- ing point for the Pirates, for they never regained their winning qualities throughout the remainder of the schedule. In the fifth year since football was re-inaugurated at Greensburg High School the Pirates compiled an overall record of two wins and six defeats. In conference play the Pirates wound up with a record of one win and four losses. This record earned the Pirates sixth place in the South Central Conference football standing. There will be eleven members lost to this year's football squad through graduation. These seniors and their positions are: Ed Belter, tackle, Lewis Cruser, guard, Gilbert Harmon, backg James Marlin, backg Bruce McGeath, backg John Meek, end, Gene Patterson, back, Weldon Stephens, end, Gary Updike, back, Karl Walker, center, and Gene Wil- liams, guard. Three members of this yearls football squad received recognition on the South Central Conference Team. Weldon Stephens won an end position on the second team, Gary Updike was given honorable mention as a back, and Karl Walker received honorable mention as a center. Greensburg 6, Batesville 25.
