I' State Solo and Ensemble Contestants We are happy to say that twenty two IHLISICIEIIIS out of th1rty one were eligible for state contest this sprlng In or der to go to state the contest ants htd to win fnst in the dis tllCt contest Our dI'I'lblt1OLlS mus1c1ans di rected by Don W1lson yentured forth on February 21 to the R Pl grounds of Indiana State Teach ers College at Terre Haute M J B S Sv With the cheers of the pep ses sions honorlng the contestants still rmglng ln thelr ears they downed five more firsts The soloists who placed first were Gladys Johnston clarlnet and Maxine Pleak barl tone sax others placing first were Larry Moore Gladys Johnston and Marilyn Jones clari net tr1o Richard Stout Gorden Sprlngmelr and Erm1l Johnston cornet trio The Twelve Little Maids also chalked up another first to keep the perfect record smce the begmmng of th1s orgamzatlon in 1944 Members of thls group under the direction of Mr Wilson were Patsy Bokelman Mary Lou Tlchenour Bonnie McNew Marilyn Jones Bonnie Wllllams Jo Ann Rogers Mertie McNeeley Theresa Nayarra Barbara McKahan Mary Wooden Joyce Ross and Joan Aly ea Shazer received a second division rating Student conductor Larry Moore placed third We are proud that this group of willing workers who under Mr Wllson s strict super 3181011 haye brought even more honors to G H S ann Twelve L1tt1e Ma1dS BWII BMN T BMKh W R MJ MN J ly N The Twelve Little Maids were selected this past year by Don Wllson G H S muslc 1n structor through the trvouts wh1ch were open to every high school girl These twelve g1rls had the best blendmg yoices The sopranos were Patsy Bokelman Bonnie McNew Jo Ann Rogers and Marv Lou Tlchenor the second sopranos Joan Aly ea Barbara Mc Kahn Theresa Nayarra and Mary Wooden the altos Marlly Jones Myrtle McNeeley Joy ce Ross and Bonita W1l1l3mS Gladys Johnston seryed as accompamst This group originated ln 1944 under the directlon of V C Shaw the music d1rector at that tlme and has been actlye ever smce partlcxpatmg ln the District and the State Con tests and Slllglng' before varlous groups and oragmzatlons They have been eligible to enter the State Solo and Ensemble contest every year after wmnmg a first d1y1s1on rating ln the Dsitrlct Contest Thev once again upheld this tradltion and placed first in the State this year J . , I 5 I v ,.
