all B S Rh C W W ll P BW RB BB G K W Pl RD C 1 C H Remlmscenses of the gvm plano- Iwas greatly amaled Whefl the TOWGI' Tl' e asked me to tell you about the G H S mUS1C department durmg the Peet year Why should I be asked yust a poor old Starck plano to wrlte the thmgs IH Wh1Ch Don W1 son and hxs II'1LlSlC1dl'lS are mostly lnterestedl It st11l remams a puzzle but Ill be glad to relate some of my experlences You see Im 1n the mUS1C SeCt10H Of the gym HH the time S0 I have a pretty good chance to obserye th1ngs Slnce Im pr1v1leged to attend thexr rehersals and some of thexr programs my lnformatlon lsnt to be l1ght y scorned Although the band doesn t use me Im a regular attendant at thelr rehersals whlch are held here on Monday Wednesday and Frlday mornmgs Once ln a whlle Im kept from my slumber when th1s group and thexr d1rector hate extra nlght praetmes but I am very un derstandlng and they usually do not stay later than 10 00 pm I am told that th1S organ 1zat1on was extremely active all year playlno' exchange concerts wxth both the Mad1SOH and the New Salem Bands presentmg concel ts IH the local communlty bemg host for the first Decatur County MUSIC Festlval partlclpatlng m the D1str1ct and the State Band Or chestra and Choral Contest marchmg for dlfferent events and many other thlngs Part of the band called the pep band plays for pep SESSIONS whlch Iye heard many tlmes I mlss the games mostly I understand that they yell themselyes hoarse yet Ican do nothlng but Walt for someone to tell me about It later Sometmqeg I w1Sh the band needed me February through March ah yes that was when numerous members and Mr Wllson put forth extremely hard and earnest work 1n preparlng for the Dlstrlct and the State Solo and Ensemble Contests Then I got a work out You see the sololsts have plano ac compamment Mrs Joe Campbell was the accompanxst th1s year I was usually sleepy and tlred so I know thev must haye been Perhaps you don t knoyy Mr Wllson the d1rector ot ITILISIC' He has been the muslc lnstructor here durmg the past tyyo years Thanks to Mr Wllson the G H S muslc dep rtment succeeded 1n plesentmg the Umted States Marlne Band 1n the afternoon performance last fall Iye heard rumors that th1s magnlficent band may appear hexe agaln next fall Due to Wlr Wllson s past teachlng GXDQYIQIICQS he has dey elopel such an extlaordmary and str1k1ng personallty that lt IS small yyonder that h1s stu dents admlre and 1espect h1m eyen as I do I belleye that one of hls chlef ambltlons 18 to organlze an 01 chestra 1nG H S Don Wnl n M nc D1 tr Row -1.
