This proves to be a most difficult task when the team is rn a slump or when rt rs not playing as rt should It rs during cases such as these that the ability of the yell leaders rs put to the acid test The task of arousing the school sprrrt fell to Dorothy Pleak and Garner Thorne this year. A better team could not have been selected. By their dynamic person- alities they were successful in arousing the practically inert school spirit of the boosters When at times the team seemed hopelessly beaten Dot and Strckey were on the fioor leading, the cheering and doing their best to boost the Pirates or the Saplrngs on to victory Class Tourney The annurl high school class tourney honors this year went to the fightrnb Sophomore squad This underclass team upset the Semor team rn the finals of the tourney by a 28 to 8 score The most dis t nct sur pr rse was the one sided S ore Last year the identical squad whreh now composed the Senior line up defied precedent by defeating the Semor team rn the finals by r one pornt margin The victorious Sophomores consisted rn the most pfrrt of members of the Sap ling., team with Huegel and Turner from the Pirates In the first round of the tourney the Seniors defeated the Juniors and the Sophomores were victorious over the Freshmen In the consolation contest preceding, the deciding game the Juniors defeated the Freshmen 31 to 19 The captains of the respectrxe teams were Kerllor Senrors Pleak Juniors Huegel Sophomores and Wm Olrgcr Freshmen Winner of Athletre Medal 'Iht rthletrc medal rs g,rxen each year to the basketball player who shows th sportsmanship and mental attitude This year Harold Carney was chosen by the selection committee as the player who rn their estimation most nearly ful filled these requirements The previous winners rre rs follows I 11954 4 rl ' .
