Eepm cafikef .. Q T Home, an ideal in America, is the essence of democracy. Careful training can go far in preparing home builders to have happy homes. Under the watchful eye of Claudia MclVIurtry, 40 girls in the G. Il. S. Home Economics Department study good grooming, meal planning and prepara- tion, related art, interior decoration, Clothing, food preservation, home nurs- ing, child care, family relationships and housing problems. Ten senior girls this year completed the Red Cross Nutrition course and re- ceived certificates. High point of the year was the Thimble Tea held May 11 at which girls modeled their Mowrey contest dresses and entertained their mothers. Winners were Rosemary Pool and Pat Tumilty Qunderclassmenb, Hilda Doggett and Mercedes Enos Qseniorsj. EQQQMZMQMZ Woodworking, printing, mechanical drawing, metal work-one of the busiest spots in school is the Indus- trial Arts Department headed bv Chalmer Oak. This year the print shop was kept bustling with the printing of supplies for the office and school activities.

55 Students who live in a rich agricul- tural community know the importance of studying the care and feeding of live- stock, farm management, soil conserva- tion, crops. G. O. Standley, head of the Vocational Agriculture Department, this year- ap- pointed three judging teams. The dairy judging team composed of Maurice Moeller, Norbert Hahn, Alfred Menke- dick and John Hellmich scored a decisive win in the district contest with Moeller also copping top honors in individual scores. On the poultry judging team were Paul Hauer, Wilbur Roberts, Maurice Neiman and Raymond Kreiger and on the crop judging team Tom Ernstes, Arthur Neiman, Leo Wolter and Fred Springmier. This year the boys organized a chap- ter of Future Farmers of America with Fred Springmier as the first president. of Zahn Boys also built a tool crib in their room. Over 50 pieces were entered in the Mowrey Manual Training Contest. For their handicraft Bill Banister and Charles Burton received under- classmen honors and Norbert Hahn and Richard Buell took first and sec- ond places in the junior-senior contest.
