X- 1 'z V 1 ' z ya i 1 z 'll:- 'i' X-l - The Home Economzcs Club Vi 1th the purpose of learnmg better home management and learning the ways of dressing more correctly a group of girls with Nhss Hfirrlson the Home Economics teacher as sponsor organized a club 1n 1971 which they called The Home Economics Club Two meetings were held each month and parties were glven by the dlfferent members whenever the social committee could arrange for the same Xt Christmas tlme tht girls dressed dolls for charity organlzatlons The club was accepted as a junior member of the Home FCOHOINICS Club of the Greensburg Department Club in the spring of N The name of the club was then changed to the jumor Home Economics Club of the Department Club Mrs Charles lVIaston served as sponsor after NI1ss Harrison left untll the past year when Miss Lolllcott took charge Lnder her able direction the glrls studied various topics such as styles lines designs color schemes suitable wardrobes etc these topics belng a great help to all Commerctal Contest The mnth annual state commercial contest sponsored by the Bill hundred thirty five representatives eager to gain honors for their school In 1979 Greensburg High School for the hrst time became a partlcl pant in the contest and succeeded 1n gaming second honors ln the district typmg d1v1s1on This year however she not only placed second in the typing division but advanced a step further and placed first in the short hand event with an average of 99 lv thus wlnmng the right to be reprt sented 1n the state finals It IS also noteworthy that the schools compris mg this dlstrlct consisted of many of the foes of Greensburg basketball fans such as Qhelbyvllle and Columbus The members of the typmg team consisted of Dorothy Tomson Nlax Layton and Lllllan Leo and the shorthand team was composed of Nlar tha Samuels Ruth Nelson and Lillian Leo The success of the commerclal department s high ranking has been largely due to the lndefatlgable efforts of Miss Sulllvan the commercial lnstructor 1gNty K .
