Previously, there had been fifteen different schools in Green Township, but in 1899 all these combined into one room under the instruction of D. C. Cooper. There were forty students in this first class. At that time it was a three year course, and of these only four graduated in 1902. All four of these gentlemen are still living. and two years ago Four Sami they were honored at the Alumni Banquet. Later the school was. enlarged to four rooms, and in 1914 its size was doubled, making eight rooms. ln 1927 the new high school was built. The Gym was the same as it is at the present time, except that there were no bleachers. Room 29 was the Freshman and Soph- omore homeroom, while the Jimiors and Seniors had their homeroom in what is now the Office. In 1939 -sv 1, f we v N, W ..,. Advlsors, Mr Ayres and Mr Bolin I plcked Dlck Foxx as Presldent, Dave Galley as Veep Dawn LeMome as Secretary, and Joe Moore as Treasurer At Homecommg I hopped mto atuba and peeked over the rxm so I could see what a cute palr of attendants Dawn LeMome and Tom Mellmger were I was also around glving mstruct1ons when Gene Clemons cast the Freshman vote on Student Councxl Strange thmgs happened that year Durmg a scrlmmage wlth Spr1ngf1eld,some of the Freshmen played, even though they hadn't enough helmets to go around A John Beese started on the field, the person, whom he was replacing, threw him attended by two dazzlmg Sophomores, Loretta Olemck and Tom Randall The b1g gest event of the year was the recelving of sweaters and Jackets After much controversy, they chose scarlet and gray as Class colors, and selected the Txger lthat's mel, deslgned by John Rxemenschnelder, as emblem The ayes and nays on the Student Councxl were given by Ruth Gelb and Gene Clemons They chose Norma Keener as Straw berry Queen candxdate, and she, too, was elected Queen The Jumor year started out wlth a bang John Beese was the hard working flrst c1t1zen Ruth Gexb served as h1s understudy, wlth Dawn LeMome Carol Sclmeider . . . .Dick Foxx Yvonne Kimmel This play started out in a very innocent manner when Corliss Archer and her girl friend, Mildred attempt to write a diary. Believing her life to be quite hum-drum, Corliss makes up afantastic story involving her parents' cruelty and her father's habitual drunkenness. To make matters worse, she inserts a page about her boy friend Dexter Franklin. Among other things, she accuses him of being a juvenile delinquent, and of forcing her to drink a vile alcoholic concoction . Meanwhile Corliss s old maid aunt arrives on the scene. She is suspicious of everyone, and is made even more sure of her convictions after she happens to read the diary. To confuse matters even more, Corliss has an appendicitis attack. While she is at the hospital, things settle down to normal. That is, everything but Dexter. He misses Corliss! On her arrival home, she plans to teach Dexter a lesson by pretending she is dying. He falls com- pletely for her little death bed scene. As the curtain falls, Corliss and Dexter make up and peace once again is restored at the Archers. The Seniors took their final bows on December 5 for their superb performance in presenting the play, 'Meet Corliss Archer . The class had a swell time putting it on, as well as working with our splendid director, Mr. Guess. Last fall the annual staff was curxous to fmd the answers to these questxons, and eager to make the mformatxon known to the students of G H S m the H1 L1te so the search for mformatlon began Our f1rst stop was Mr Webb s ofhce There we learned that our chances were pretty sl1m for any records that mlght have been made were burned durlng the flre of 1946 However, he thought that lt had been the result of a contest sponsored by the PTA, and he suggested that we look through the mlnutes for the years 1930 1940 On to Mrs Plummer's home, the present PTA Presldent Here we searched through page a.fter page, and delved mto the past, but It was no use, we could f1nd no mentxon of any contest Next we looked through old H1 Lxtes and P1oneers, but none of these gave us a clue Then we contacted Mr Kuder, the former prmcxpal of G H S Through Mr Kleckner we learned that he was now 11v1ng 1n L1ma, Oh1o At last we were close!
