HISTORY At about nune oclock on the mornung of September 4 1935 a group of luttle darlungs so called by Mrs Maye Sumpson entered the portal to what was called the first grade Of that group w-e stull have wuth us llah Dean Adkuns Rebecca Cooke Betty Jean Henderson Perry Rebecca Mulby Honey Lou Moss Dorlene Patterson Juanuta Perry Moxune Rucker Maruan Davues Sanders Golda Vaughn Tate Harold Berry Bobby Floyd Joe Jones Buddy Lowe Walter Randall Mrlby and Gene Puckett From there each year we found ourselves one step hugher and never dud we thunk that there was so much to be learned about the noun multuplucatuon table Monroe Doctrune and the Declaratuon of Independence but somehow we managed to be elumunated from the grades to go upstaurs to hugh school Then wuth the enrollment of many county pupuls the freshman class under the enthusuastuc guudance of Muss Elsue McKunney won uts first vuctory un the electuon of Perry Rebecca Mulby as Duomond Rung Queen Betty Jean Henderson was Carnuval Queen candudate Our carnuval program that year was the Mauor Bowes Show Due to curcumstonces beyond our control we lost several of our classmates They were Wulbert Bennett Orvulle Walker Ray Wathen Maxune Young Renua Atwell Muldred Jettrues Mary Eunice Jones Hazel Moore Ruth Squures Agnes Tucker Cullue Embrey and Junelua Wulkerson Durung thus tirst year Martha lee Durham had the hughest scholastuc average Our Sophomore year wuth the talented leadershup of Muss Paulune Curry was a successful and happy one That year our Carnuval Queen and Duamand Rung Candudates were Dorlene Patterson and Honey Lou Moss respectively Our carnuval feature was The luttle Brown Jug That year Perry Rebecca Mulby led the class un scholastuc standung We were glad to have Thurman Sumpson Eugene Humble and Agnes Davenport uoun our class thus year For voruous reasons we lost Daunon Buckner Holland Hedgespeth Thurman Sumpson Elmore Wulluams Nadune Chaudoun Audrey Squares Julua Clark Dorus Thompson Agnes Davenport and Martha lee Durham As we came to occupy the dugnufied posutuon of Junuors ut was o pleasure and a pruvulege to have as our sponsors Mr l G Curry and Mr Clayton Hood They unspured us to be true to our hughest aums ourselves our fellowman and to God On the first day of our Junuor year our class was saddened by the troguc death of Morrus Boyd who was loved by everyone Carnuval Queen and Duamond Rung representatuves were Juanuta Hancock and Juanuta Perry The Junuor Play The Cannubal Queen broke all records for receupts and was consudered a very successful productuon We entertauned the Senuors wuth a pulgrumage through Mammoth Cave and o luncheon at Mammoth Cave Hotel We were glad to have Kenneth Stolts Wallace Thompson Charles Puckett and louuse Hall Slunker to 'om us and sorry to lose Thomas Melton Wallace Thompson Charles Puckett Dorus Kessler Wulma Leftwuch Arlene Neagle lsabel Russell and louuse Hall Slunker Thus Year Barbara Jean Larumore had the hughest scholastuc average In September 1946 we found we had reached the posutuon of lordly Senuors and began our final and most delughtful year at G H S Our sponsor Mrs L G Curry has at all tumes been a suncere fruend and has helped to create on atmosphere of happuness and contentment The first class event of the year was o farewell party at the home of Mrs Curry when two of our members G W Dewutt and Rollun Judd answered the call to serve un the armed forces We were sorry to lose them and also Elous Squures and Wallace Thompson We were happy however to have Moruan Sanders and Geraldune Squures agaun and to have Claude Sharp Thomas Perry and Caleb Page Sulluvan return from the servucee of our country un tume to graduate wuth us Our Senuor Carnuval productuon was a munstrel and we were the proud wunners with Juanuta Hancock crowned Carnuval Queen and Elous Landus wunnung the duomond rung We enuoyed worluung on the beautuful Chrustmas Pageant whuch was presented un chapel and receuved unspurataon whuch cannot be equated by any other type of program Our Senuor Play Out of thus World was quute o success and we shall not soon forget Uncle Otus and hus upset household Perry Rebecca Mulby was Valeductoruan and Walter Randall Mulby Salutatoruan Adena Bloyd has the dustunctuon of beung the only one of the class who has a perfect attendance record for the enture four years We shall always cherush the memory of our school days at G H S and we awe much of of our success to our Superuntendent Mr J H Sanders who has the abuluty to unspure and arouse enthusuasm un those wuth whom he comes un contact Hus warm smule and the sympathet uc help he has given un solvung the problems of young people has endeared hurn to all of May the seeds sown un the form of udeals by hum by our sponsors and our other teachers
