go1ng back IPIO the past th1S nxght I too w1ll glve you someth1ng of a day gone by
M1ldred and Laeola please help me vuth the qu1lt Not1ce the br1ght colors IH lt
The blues the p1nks the reds the greens they are all there There are flowers ln
some of the P16083 there are str1pes and checks and convent1onal des1gns And all
the l1ttle t1ny DICCCS put together rrake a fimshed product But when th1s qunlt lS
put 1nto use 1t vnll show the marks of txme Its beauty as a whole w1ll not rema1n
so Some of the DIGCCS woven 1n more sturdy mater1al w1ll keep the1r or1g1nal
color and des1gn yet others Wlll fade and wear out some of the flowers w1ll always
be lovely and br1ght but others w1ll d1sappear The qullt can be patched and mend
ed and even d1pped 1nto dye to br1ghten 1t up agam If the qullt were stored
away 1n some dark chest Wlth moth balls 1t mlght hold 1ts color and form but It
would become a mustv stale old thmg
Th1s qu1lt IS to me Just a symbollsm
Here we are The class of 1941 We are young and new to the world
How br1ght and colorful are our hopes We are together here l1ke the p1eces
1n thlS qu1lt Tomorrow we w1ll set out and the marks of t1me Wlll change
us The beauty of our class as a vxhole w1ll not rema1n so Some of the class made
of more sturdy materxal w1ll make a place 1n the world and weather all hardsh1ps
1n l1fe A few w1ll patch up the1r 111 es and start anew Some of the class may s1t at
home sheltered from the world 1nact1ve takmg care of the1r prec1ous selves But
