our second year we entered the carnrval wrth a Hawanan shovn that was a success In the sprlng of this second year we enjoyed our class soclal rn the basement of the school Other members of the faculty attended our socral and some few of the students that we lost the past year Agarn Mrss Gene Blakeman 1S honored for havrng the hrghest record rn thrs second year of hrgh school Another leaf drops from our plant that takes us rnto the thrrd year of our hrgh school days Again we are fortunate rn havlng as our sponsors Mlss Grace Weller and Mr Clayton Hood They were assrsted by Odell Warren Pres1dent mad an rnsprratronal talk Lewrs Hrggason took away the honors for hrgh grades rn thrs thrrd year Alas' the fourth leaf has dropped from our flower but thrs does not srgnrfy that the stem rs dead wrthrn The leaves are wrlted and gone but the stem of thrs flower vxrll lrve rn the hearts of 90 eager boys and grrls as long as trme lasts We are stlll entrusted to the wonderful care of Mrss Grace career We gave a Negro Mrnstrel that was a success from every standpomt A few weeks later we were found selectrng our class rmg We prrze our rrngs very hrghly for they gave us our first feelrng of berng a hrgh school graduate The early days of sprmg caught us practrcrng for the semor play At last we were ready and on the nrght of Aprrl 2 1942 we gave our play Don t Take My Penny whrch broke all prevrous records rn the school s hrstory We took rn S184 20 Durrrg thrs year we were very sorry to lose Wrllram Ferrrll on account of an accrdent We were also sorry to lose Gordon Moss and Wade Rayburn Nearrng the close of thrs year we had to grve up one of our sponsors Mr Hood a member of the faculty that was loved by all hrs stud nts He rs workrng for hrs government rn Ill'nors lV'rs
