Mr. Gates stated that the boys were not ready for the past season, in which the Lions won four, lost live, and tied one. ln the initial battle with the Youngwood Rail- roaders, the Lions uncorlced a deceptive attaclc, featuring laterals and more laterals behind a powerhouse, a veteran-studded line. The Danks- directed offensive scored eight times. Abe House and -lohn Vrable sharing the scoring burden with four touchdowns each. 'lihe following week, the Lions were host to hard-lighting Sewickley Township. Although the Bisons fought hard, they were unable to stop the powerful thrusts of Vrable and Usbon, and when the final whistle blew, the Lions were out in front, 12-O. In the line, Dick Paluzzi, Tom Levendusky, and Dick Hyatt played heads-up football. One week later, on a soggy turf, the Lions came to grips with a powerful Wilkiiislmiirg team. Coming back after Il gruelling, scoreless first half, in which the Greensburg line, led by Slyman and Riddle, flashed tremendous power, the Lions scored, with Osbon smashing through the center for the hrst touchdown. After the Holy City Gridders had pushed their lone tally across, the Lions roared again, this time with Vrable carry- ing the ball into the end zone for the second Lion touchdown. Laurels for line play went to joe Klitinger and .lack Riddle. Living up to their school's tradition of giving the Golden Lions of Greensburg one of their hard- est games, the Hurst Hurricanes Hashed line

Ylihen- ever possible they avoid the portals of this un- familiar place from which issue the orders con- trolling their scholastic life. Sophomores hecome hraver and no longer tremlwle when the occupants hecome visihle. :X little awe still overcomes them. however, at seeing students on the other side of the desk. -luniors practice their rights as upper classmcn hy frequenting the office as a matter of course. Seniors walk in and out of the many doors with the poise hefitting the highly privileged soon-to-he graduates. This year the office took on a new appearance. Miss Mclfarland at last reigned supreme in her own office, rather than amid the hahhle and hunt of the general office as in former years. Nlr. -lacohs took over half of the hook room, minus hooks, and produced a shiny new office where, like Xlr. Anthony, he dealt with our problems. All of us groped vainly for Nliss Geigens married PLAN OUR PRGGRAMS name and finally settled on the familiar Nlarv as we stopped just to pass the time of day. Some- where hehind all the elephants we usually found -lo llammer and the answer to our many ques- tions and trouhles. ilihe pay phone was moved out to the main en- trance and students rememhered the good old days when a nickel was not necessary to tell Xlother you'd he home a little late hecause of an unavoidahle appointment with a teacher. Nlost of our vets minus home rooms, made the office their residence hetween periods. 'lihe usual stu- dents spent the usual morning at the harm rapid- ly thinking up an excuse for their ahsence from studv hall vesterdav. 'lihe new filing system gained popularity, es- pecially among the feminine menihers of the stu- dent hody. Now they could easily find out what period Bill had study hall and adjust their schedules to suit. Despite the changes, the office is, as formerly, the huh of all school activities.

power in the Lion's face. In the final minute of a scoreless game, Cole, sub quarterback, threw a fourth down pass to Myatt, who made a desper- ate one-hand catch for the only score of the game. Hopeful of winning our second class AA encount- er, we traveled to Connellsville. The Cokers took command from the start, using their speed and blocking perfectly. An outstanding play of the game was by House, who raced 52 yards for our first score. As the game ended, however, we trail- ed 35-13. In the first encounter with the newly organized North Huntingdon Township gridders, the Lions battled to a 6-6 tie. The visitors, after scoring on an intercepted pass, could not stop the Lion,s march in the final period. Vrable received the tying pass from Myatt. f' The following week Greensburg bowed in de- feat to a mighty, heavier Altoona eleven. Scoring in each of the last three periods, the visitors won by a comfortable margin of 25-0. In our annual battle with the Latrobe Wild- cats, we were handicapped offensively from the first play, when Vrable was injured. Defeat once again stared the Lions in the face as Latrobe's powerful line thrusts piled up 4 touchdowns, the Lions failed to tally. After marking up two straight first downs in an impressive start against the heavily favored Johnstown Trojans, the Lions found rough going on the home field of their old rivals.
