For it isn's your family or friends or the coaches Whose judgment upon you must pass. whose verdict counts in your life The person Is the one staring at you from the glass. You may fool all the world down the avenue of years And get pals on the hack as you pass. They outscored Havana in the District Contest. They attended the Tallahassee Springtime Parade April 7. They had a very good season although the band was small. Jerome took good control of the band serving his first year as Drum Major. They attended the Florida A M University Parade. In November, the band performed in Shanks' and Havana's Homecoming parade. The last of March, the Concert Band performed at the District Concert. The Homecoming band did their last dance for the season. FAIR HEALTH FAIR 73 74 . SPRINGTIME PAGEANT 75 HISTORY A famous person once said. I am a part of all that 1 have met And this is true, for as we look back over the years, we realize that we are what we are today because of the people and experiences of our past As we near graduation, what better time to reflect over the beginning years of our education? Remember the first day of kindergarten when out screaming and crying almost drove Mrs. Smith and Miss Sansom crazy. Danny and Dennis' running away didn't help matters either By the time we reached first grade we were accustomed to school and Mrs. Larkin and Mrs. Doyle really helped by taking us on an Easter egg hunt to Mrs. Larkin's farm where Anglie kept pushing Janice off the hayride. In the second grade. Mrs Ellis taught us our first song We thought we were ready for Hollywood' In the third grade we went to our second farm By this time, we were beginning to feel like real farmers. In the fourth grade we were really breaking bad. even Hope She put water in Mrs. Proctor s seat and got the whole class in trouble The fifth grade was when we discovered that we were multitalented Mr Drayton and Mrs. Carpenter supported us as we presented our first concert and performed the May Pole Dance Seniors at last; well, seniors in elementary school. Tonya had sixth-grader s disease and was so terrible she had to sit by Mrs Hawkin s desk. When we reached the seventh grade, we were back on the bottom again, the new kids at school, and Larry Ford made Hope pay by stealing one of her tennis shoes. As far as 1 know, he hasn't returned it to this day. The eighth grade was a year of coming and going Sherena joined us. Shelia came back, and D.D. left. Hclenthia and Elesha went to state with the girls basketball team, and Greensboro had their first flag corps with Dorothy McMillan as a member. In the ninth grade. Jayne Guest was crowned Military Ball Queen and Chris Northington joined our class. The 10th grade year was very difficult for some of us. Gina learned the art of not skipping school. Mr Revell taught her. And hasn't skipped again to this day Danita just couldn t stay away and returned that year. Michael Brown came and brought with him, the Afro Jayne and Sherena became cheerleaders. Danita. Helenthia. and Jackie went to Cat's on a school night and flunked Mi Scott's test the next day. I know that we were bad in elementary school, but in our 11th grade year, we were terrible Melissa. Carla, and Amos joined us. Michael Brown made All Bid Bend Elesha. Helenthia. and Danita became cheerleaders. Colonel Lovings caught Marsha smoking around the corner of the pod Danny caught the fever for older women. During class one day, Michael asked Mrs. Kever if he could go to the office and walked home Even though this was Amos' first year, it sure didn t stop him from getting into trouble, like the day he threw the piece of aluminum foil and almost hit Mrs. Hutley. Our Senior year has really been an unusual one Carla became the first girl Company Commander of the ROTC and Patrick Burke joined our group We took a Senior Skip Day. but no one knew about it Michael Brown and Patrick Burke stole Hope's truck. For the first time Devonne. Melissa. Anglie. and Shelia made the honor roll The ROTC had their Annual Formal Inspection and Devonne fainted Helenthia Rolax was crowned Miss Greensboro; Sherena Melendy. Miss Homecoming; and Danita Williams. Miss Senior. Well, that's it, our history As we pause to reflect over our years in school, we think of funny times, sad times, exciting times, and some nerve-wracking times But. one thing is sure: We are definitely a part of all that we have met. PROPHECY Here it is 1994! How the years have flown' Remember when we thought our Senior year would never end? And here we are, ten years later at our first class reunion at the Greensboro Hilton No one ever thought Greensboro would have a hotel Guess who the owner of the Greensboro Hilton Hotel is? Patrick Burke, who won a million dollars in the state lottery. The rest of the graduation class of 1984 is now arriving, and we find that Howard Baker has taken over Colonel Lovings's place at Greensboro High School and owns a dozen pipes of his very own. Riding with Howard is his old buddy. Amos Bostick, who presently is the principal of Greensboro High School. Now Amos gets to hand out the tardy slips which he used to receive so often. And guess who is the new football coach at G.H.S.? None other than Devonne Hendrix, with Coach Jackson keeping her stats. And now comes our valedictorian. Hope Bradwell Unfortunately. Hope flunked out of college her first year She now owns her own hamburger stand located under the oak tree in Greensboro. Danny Anderson, who went on to become the next Gary Ewing, arrives in his chauffeured limousine If you ever wondered what happened to Tony Britt and Shelia Bentley, well. Tony became a reverend, and Shelia is a nun. They both must leave early to attend a religious seminar. Jackie Pride is a D J at the local radio station and Paul Monk owns his own gas station. Hopefully, he will never run out of gas again, like he always did in high school! Carla Lightfoot is the former owner of Lightfoot s Bakery. Unfortunately, the bakery went bankrupt since Carla ate up all the profit. Rickey Murray is a psychologist and has just traded the old Impala for a brand new Ferrari Anglie Holmes moved to Philadelphia to become an air traffic controller, while her friend Tonya James has turned her husband's skating rink into a jazzercise center with Chris Northington accompanying her as a gym instructor. Dorothy McMillan writes Tonya Jazzercise books. Sophia Murray finally earned enough money working at Chandler's to buy them out She has renamed it 'Sophia's Quisine Henry Skipper is now the mascot for the Florida Gators and is married to Melissa Lightfoot who is a professor at the university. Sharon Dudley is a telephone operator. This way. she can keep up with all the latest gossip just like she did in school. Tammy Fox is a news reporter for the Greensboro Journal. We find that Gina Hancock is President of the Marlboro Cigarette Company Helenthia Rolax is a professional basketball player and runs a cosmetic company during the off-season. Helenthia's old friend. Danita Williams, is now an exotic dancer at the Fourth World Disco Marsha Bodiford is the proud owner of the Busy Bee. with Marshilla Green as her general manager Glenda Gainous is a commercial actress for pearl drop tooth polish, because she still smiles all the time just like she did in school. Who would ever have thought that Janice Betton would join her outlaw husband? She was able to make this reunion only because she was released on parole Michael Brown has taken a bunch of juvenile deliquents and turned them into a championship basketball team Sherena Melendy is a veterinarian and cares for her own race horses as well as the hogs on the farm which Jayne Guest took over when Tony became a reverend. Elesha Thomas is a teacher at Greensboro Elementary School, and during the summer, rides around in her pink Cadillac selling Mary Kay cosmetics. The last of the class of ’84 is Dennis Smith who is one of the ten most eligible bachelors in the U.S. Well, that's it' All the graduates are here, and haven't things changed since 1984? I wonder what we’ll all be doing in the year 2004? WILL 78 I, Danny Anderson, will to Karen Clausen the ability to stay out of trouble with Col. Lovings as I did. Freedom, she said, now, just what is that. Freedom to choose opportunities' best. Or freedom to lose when put to the test? Which of life's keys would you care to depart. Which door would you close when ere came the knock? Which of life's dreams do you burst with your cry' Will time pass you by with never a try? Indulgence and freedom bear not the same course. Each rushes along a quite different force. Freedom you say, reflect well the point. For mastery is freedom to conquer your want. Indulgence may gladden the moment today, But can never extract the laborer's pay There is no time you may erring wast But spring to the task with valient haste. (TATE) RICHARDSON I pray thee, then, write me as one that loves his fellowmen. WHEREAS, this School Board and this school system lost a dedicated friend and worker in the passing of C.H. (Tate) Richardson on November 2, 1983; and WHEREAS, this loss, shared by a host of other fellow workers, former students, and other friends, is especially grievous to his wife of forty-eight years, Violet Mize Richardson; a son, John Kenneth Richardson; a daughter, Shari R. Arrington; four adoring grandchildren, Kimberly Dru and John Bryndon Richardson and Daniel Burt and Anne Elizabeth Arrington; three brothers; Carl Richardson, of Staten Island, New York; John Richardson, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Orville Richardson, of Bellevue, Kentucky; and two sisters; Delma R. Beach and Emma R. Hargis, of Akron, Ohio; and WHEREAS, this Board wishes to make a permanent public record of these and other facts concerning Tate Richardson, and, as best we can, to honor his memory and express to those closest to him our heartfelt sympathy; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SCHOOL BOARD OF GADSDEN COUNTY, FLORIDA; IN MEMORIAM C.H. (TATE) RICHARDSON From Tate's childhood to early middle age, his home was in the State of Kentucky. Born at Poplarville on December 22, 1912, he graduated from Mt. Victory High School in 1933; attended Sue Bennett Jr. College (London, Ky.), 1933-1936; and at Eastern Kentucky State College (Richmond, Ky.) received the B.S. Degree in 1942 and the M.A. Degree in 1952. Meanwhile, his career in public education, spanning almost a half-century, had begun early: he served from 1934 to 1942 as teacher and principal in the Pulaski County Schools and, from 1942 to 1953, as superintendent of the city school system of Ferguson. Coming to Gadsden County, Florida in 1953, Tate rendered outstanding service as Principal of the Greensboro High School from July 1 of that year to December 1977, when he retired. Even after that, still an able mathematics instructor, he took pleasure in returning to the classroom from time to time as a substitute teacher. In 1982, having been elected to a 4-year term as a member of the Gadsden County School Board, he took office on November 16. Here he served faithfully and well until his death. Tate grew up in a close-knit family, whose members have through the years maintained strong ties, though widely separated as to residence. His marriage on September 21, 1935 to Miss Violet Mize of Stab, Kentucky began for him a new, warm and singularly happy home which, added to by a loving son and daughter, was a joy and blessing to him for the rest of his life. Tate once remarked humorously that he came to Florida for sand and surf ' What he found here was a long and successful career of service to youth and the community, and the love and respect of his neighbors and associates. Tate was a friendly, cheerful man, who loved life, living, sports, and people. He belongs to Gadsden County. A long-time active member of the Greensboro Baptist Church, he served for many years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. His community activities included work as a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Gadsden Memorial Hospital Board, and various other organizations, and in voluntary private tutoring of high school and college students who needed help, especially in mathematics. AND WHEREAS, the members and the Secretary of this Board, along with many other people, will long and warmly remember him; now, therefore, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED AND ORDERED that the shared sense of loss, and our other sentiments herein described, be sincerely expressed to the beloved and loving family of C.H. (Tate) Richardson, with copies of this Resolution transmitted to them and, for the information of the many others who deeply feel his absence, to the Gadsden County Times. DONE AND ORDERED in regular meeting duly assembly on this, the nineteenth day of December, 1983. 104 THE SCHOOL BOARD OF GADSDEN COUNTY, FLORIDA Randolph E. Greene, Chairman; Betty M. Baker, Vice-Chairman; William K. Pitts, Jr., Member; Harold J. Henderson, Member; Witt A. Campbell, Member; Grinelle E. Bishop, Secretary pc . n ■ ■ • • '' 'tv. t . .1 «• V.. rr xtsm t
