Dedication Administration Seniors Juniors Sophomores gj Junior High jjt Athletics Activities Senior Memorabilia Advertisements Mrs. Toole, It’s hard to decide where to begin. I guess it started back in seventh grade. We came to this school as toddlers and thru the years you have watched us change and •N' grow into young adults. Our first class under your careful instruction was in ninth grade. We never knew one finger typing could be so hard! By the next year, we were all souding-off Sophomores, but at least we knew more about typing. The year passed rapidly and in our Junior year you really helped us, not only in your class but with the many problems we faced from day to day. You even taught some of us twice and did we profit from that! Finally, we made it to our Senior year r j and here we are again. By this year, we’ve learned to value life. You’ve taught us to be patient, understanding, and most of all, you’ve given us something not many others have, the love and caring that comes with teaching. You’ve gained a perma- 2 nent spot in our hearts and with that we can cherish our final year in school. Mrs. Toole, we thank you for everything you’ve done for us, even the little things mean so much. Like the times we’ve shared talking about our minor problems to the great subject of love, and all the discussions of our Senior activities. Remember, the dances, volleyball and basketball games, bake sales, our famous talent shows, and let’s not forget our super Junior-Senior Prom. We hate to leave you, but don’t look at it as an end but rather, as a beginning, a beginning of a new life for each of us as we each go our seperate ways. May you always remember us and cherish those moments, for, Mrs. Toole, the 1981-82 edition of THE BULLDOG is dedicated to you! MS'DJA eSNZSK 1981-82 The Greensboro High Media Center is moving on! Transferred from the main building to the pod, the “new” media center has doubled in size. The air-conditioned, carpeted facility has spacious areas for fiction, non-fiction, biography, and references. Special sections include the junior-book corner, magazines periodicals and the filmstrip vertical file area. In addition, the new facility boasts a paneled workroo-m office, an AV storage room and a bound periodicals room. Eighteen tables and 3 center storage sections provide maxium seating and work room for students. Numerous materials have been added to the Media Center collection. One hundred new paperbacks and perma-bound novels are especially popular with Greensboro students. Teachers are using new filmstrips in the areas of American history, mathematics, geography, and biology. Media Specialist, Nora Ray and library aides, Gleycia Mathews, Jayne Guest, and Dawn Clark are striving to establish the new Media Center and to acquaint patrons with the conversion. MRS. I’ve been assigned to Br. Bore’s class — AGAIN!!!” “Busy work, busy work, busy work!” “I’M SICK OF THIS SCHOOL!!!” Hey, seniors of the world — sound familiar? Each year twelfth graders get an unpalatable taste of the age-old malady populary referred to as “Senioritis.” The more common symptoms include boredom, lack of initiative, mischief, feelings of unimportance, feeling “too young to do what one wants to, and too old to be led by elders,” and, of course, the subsequent crankiness. f r The cure for “Senioritis” is yet another disease sometimes called the “Last Syndrome.” For example, “This is my LAST high school ballgame, my LAST prom, my LAST ... ” and so on. The symptoms of the “Last Syndrome” are usually depression and guilt (about being bored during the “Senioritis” phase). After one runs out of “lasts,” the third, and most dreaded, senior disease sets in: “The-Gonna-Graduate-in-Four-Weeks-Blues.” Its cure? Who knows? Summer fun, perhaps. Or maybe college or work for others. But never fear, imminent graduates — the senior diseases are only temporary and rarely leave any lasting side ef-. fects. Yes, there have been times to laugh and times to cry, times to say no and times to ask why, but, after all we’ve been through and all we’ve seen, we are soon to be rewarded for our hard and dedicated work. In first grade many of us were trying to adjust to leaving our parents, whom we loved and felt secure with for a whole day and staying with persons that, to us, looked mean. We really didn’t know each other well, but for Patricia W. and Gleycia M. it was well worth the effort of learning. Poor Patricia, will she ever learn to be quiet and let Mrs. Larkin tell us what to do! By second grade many of our fears were behind us. At this time we were trying to learn our ABC’s to a little tune we learned. Boy did Rusty P. need vocal lessons. Wonder if Lisa M. helped any? In the third grade, we really thought we were grown up! Due to the lack of talent, this was the first year they let us participate in May Day. Michael P. and Cordell M. were hot stuff with their tumbling acts!!! Well, anyway everyone thought they were great. Our fourth grade year was one we all shall not forget, as our teacher Mrs. Clement, whom we loved so much, left us. Poor David B. and Danny P. were heart broken, but they survived. Also, Betty J. and Sonya R. were taken to the office as they fought over the new guy in town. Ah, fifth grade brought a variety of new experiences for us all. Mr. Drayton was as soft hearted as ever, why we didn’t even do any work and we made A’s. When the Boy Scouts met in our room, Debra L., Dawn C., and Betty J. left notes in their seats which read, “Do not sit in this seat!”, and of course we know they really wanted a good looking guy to sit there. Sixth grade was the dividing line as we reached the half-way mark of education. Mr. Ellis had us on the move from our field trip to the capitol, spray painting his desk with wild colors to making good ’ole moonshine. David H. and Kenny M. can tell you how it really turned out. As we marched down the long aisle for graduation nearly everyone received an award. Amy R. received an Outstanding Bandsman award for which she became famous for playing “Hello Dolly”. Seventh grade, we used the phrase, “Back to the ’ole drawing board,” as we were the underdogs at the high school. Greg S., along with Mickey and Michael L. rushed to class in fear of being tardy, and lost. While Mary W. and Gwen T. thought the cafeteria was a classroom. In the eighth grade, we were more familiar with things. This was a hard year for all of us as Mrs. Sumpter, our history teacher, gave Cynthia S. and Oscar M. a taste of the tough life. This year we picked up some new classmates as Edward G. and Dionne D. joined our shaken class. Ninth grade set a name for us as we were known as Freshman. Fresh was exactly the term as Alice R. and David B. and Kenny M. and Karen S. hit it off for half a semester. Edith D. and Ellanor K. made a big hit as they joined the volleyball team and drove the w ball through a brick wall. Tenth grade came for a group of sounding off Sophomores. Yes, we were in and out of the office so much they had to replace the hinges. It was this year that some of the sophomores, David B., Danny P., Greg S., and the Langford twins played Junior Varsity football while Greg N. tried his hand in basketball and picked up the name “The Bird”. Now the year that made history. We started our Junior Year with our heads held high. Joining our witty group was Oscar M., Renee P., Durwood C., and Vincent G. Tim A. helped make this an enjoyable year with his pranks and those we pulled on him. Connie C. will have to plant another tree behind the pod where she backed her car into it because she had no tag. Penny M. became very active this year as she joined the volleyball, softball, and basketball teams. We were sure they would let her on the football team, but Vincent G. became jealous so she dropped the idea. Also, in this year our digestive systems had seen some wear and tear so a few of the girls became friends with the Breadman. Finally to highlight the year our JR-SR Prom. The week of the prom came and none of us even looked at a desk or book. We had it so well planned, two DJ’s came to entertain us. Bu OUR SENIOR YEAR. Time has passed so fast! We’ve matured in many ways. The memories of our past school days shall be stored in our minds and treasured forever. There are still many untold stories that lie in the minds of us all, but those are too personal to mention and too precious to forget. The graduating Class of 1982 predicts that ten years from now . . Michael P. and Cordell M. will own five chain clothing stores called Super Kool Duds . . . Lisa M. will buy out and manage the McCall Pattern Co., where she will hire Penny M. as the Fashion Coordinator . . . Patricia W. is now the new minister at The House of Worship in Sawdust, Fla. and somehow she got Greg S. to join as a full-fledge member. Amy R. has opened up one of the largest chains of intercom equipment called A.R.’s International Intercoms . . . David B. and Danny P. have bought out Winn Dixie and now own five stores in the heart of Sycamore where they supply Alice R. with food for her new restaurants, all twenty of them ... Connie C. has become a Foreign Relations Agent at the Tijuanan, Mexican Airport. Tim A. has opened a statewide Used or Junk car lot, featuring the seven trucks he owns . . . Pam M. has found an interesting Secretarial job at Edward G.’s tractor business, which by the way sounds familiar, John Deere Vincent G. has become a world famous football player for the Dallas Cowboys where he met Mickey and Michael L. . . . Donald H. was smart and joined the Pittsburgh Steelers as the team manager. Sonya R. has joined the FAMU Marching 100 as she takes on the job as the band director ... Gwen T. and Mary W. have taken over the ownership of Bookwood’s Disco, but they still go to church on Sunday and have traveled to all parts of the world only to find Greg N. in South America where he’s finishing his missionary work. Betty J. has been through three husbands and seven children and she hopefully wants to open a nursery store to sell the baby goods she’s bought, when the children are grown . . . Gleycia M. and Cynthia S. have joined the U.S. Air Force and now have forty platoons under their little fingers ... Rusty P. and David H. own Jack Daniels Whiskey Corporation where Oscar M. has a joint partnership .. . Ellanor K. owns a volleyball equipment shop and supplies Mrs. Tash discounts for her championship team. Debra L. and Renee P. have opened a Weight Loss Clinic for anyone willing to pay $80.00 for a day’s workout. Durwood C. is the Captain of a 385 foot Cruise Ship ... Kenneth M. is now a five star General and still refused to shave . . . and Dawn C. has opened a worldwide Firebird and Trans-Am Corporation. 95 I, Karen Scott, will to Col. Lovings, the ability to lead without unnecessary loudness ... I, Edward Griffin, will to James Griffin, the ability to get along with others. I, Pam Meagher, will to my brothers, Mike and Sam, the ability to fall in love with someone as wonderful as I did. I, Dawn Clark, will to Jennifer Clausen my ability to be quiet when I should. I, Amy Roach, will to Melody McDaniel my ability to get out of class and also my ability to interupt classes on the intercom. I, Connie Clark, will to my younger brother, David, my two younger sisters, Brenda and Linda, my good grades and ability to survive Mrs. Kever’s class three consecutive years. I, Kenny Miley, will to my cousin Hank Shephard the ability to find a girl higher than the seventh or eighth grade. I, Patricia Walters, will to my sisters, Bettie and Juanita, the ability to go ahead and graduate from high school.
