Our journey was filled W-n exc‘teiyi®nt anc fun along with disappointments and failures. Perhaps our greatest acheivement will be receiving our diplomas for the hard and dedicated work that we have accomplished. 112 First grade was our period of adjustment, we had to adjust to leaving the security of our parents and unwillingly being thrust into the hands of our first grade teachers. Here, we learned our ABC’s and 123’s. I wonder did Fannie T. ever stop crying long enough to learn anything? And did K. Holland ever realize that Mrs. Larkin wasn’t that bad after all. In our second year, we stopped crying and started trying. It was in this year that we were segregated. We learned how to write cursive. F. Britt and L. Lumpkin thought that cursive writing was small v’s written continuously. I wonder if L. Johnson ever got over her first boyfriend? In the third grade, we began to enjoy school because it was in this year that we participated in the May Day Program. We did the hula dance and the girls got to shake their grass skirts. G. Glisson use to have a lot of temper tantrums and run out of the room when he couldn’t get his way. Even today he has tantrums but has stopped running out of class. Our fourth year was very eventful. We went on our first field trip to the Jr. Museum and the Post Office in Talla. C. Lee couldn’t go because she broke two of her toes. D. Dudley took some students for hitting her in the eye to the office. We also participated in Field Day which a few of us won various prizes for contests. Fifth grade was not as exciting as our previous year, Sylvester, Stewart, and Ben, created a little excitement by burning up C. Akins shawl for telling their secret. Mr. Drayton had an accident which changed his appearance. I wonder did F. Britt ever stop laughing at him? L. Shepard got real mad because the principal would not let her in the class with her friends. She finally got her way. We’ve reached the half-way mark. We considered ourselves as Srs. of the Elementary School. We made history in this year. We were the first Graduating Class of the Greensboro Elementary. This year, we also visited the High School. Seventh grade was like starting all over again. New teachers, changing classes, getting lost, and being sent to the office. All of that was an everyday thing. We set the record for the class with the least tardies because we used to run to every class period. By the time eighth grade rolled around, we were all in shape after running so much the last year. This was the start of our athletic careers. Cynthia Lee joined the Girls’ Basketball Team, S. Hatten, J. Brown, and D. Bouie were starters for the “C” Team. A. Chipmon, F. Britt, L. Shepard, L. Johnson, and G. Woods tried their hands at cheering. Freshmen at last! This year didn’t turn out to be what we thought it would because all we got was our titles. This year K. Holland became a Majorette and helped the band to receive an Excellent rating in the District Contest. The Majorettes received a Superior rating that year. Tenth graders and we were finally considered as high school students. This was our best year yet. K. Dyer and L. Capers finally made the varsity football team. We had a winning season, but it wasn’t because of their contributions because they warmed the bench most of the time. In our Jr. years, we had the privilege of ordering our class rings a year before graduation. Our Girls’ Basketball Team made history in this year by advancing to the State Championship, led by the one and only powerful C. Lee (The Dr. J. of the girls’ basketball)! We struggled to give the Seniors their Prom. We peddled Mother’s Day Cakes along with paying our dues and having bake sales. The Prom was a great success which we talked about for weeks. SENIORS! Can you believe it? The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! Even though some of the students we did have, have gone their separate ways already, those who remain will be honored to be The Graduating Seniors of ’81. Through it all, we have learned to depend upon individual ability along with the guidance of teachers, parents, and friends. 113 I, Donna Lemieux, will to Amy Roach my position on the Annual Staff ... I also will to Mrs. Barnette a better Home Ec class than she had this year. I, Jesse Brown, will to Greg Stanley the ability to kick the habit. I, Kim Holland, will to all the younger students my ability to stay with it (school), no matter how much you want to give it up ... I also will to Mrs. Kever my ability to eat a chicken sandwich from Burger King without gaining TEN pounds. I, Stewart Scott, will to Patricia Walter a picture of me so that she will not be sad or lonely next year . . . I will to Mrs. Bethune the mind to slow down and stop teaching so fast. I, Fannie Thomas, will to my sisters the ability to be better students ... I will to the teachers at GHS the hope that they have as much fun teaching the next six years as they had teaching the Graduating Class of “81”. I, Laura Shepard, will to my sisters, Beckie and Kari, my ability to successfully complete High School at GHS, no matter what ... I will to Mr. Marlow my ability to outsmart my Daddy. I, Michelle Smith, will to the Junior Class my ability to hang in there in their Senior year ... I also will to Mr. Toole a roll of film so that I can have a few pictures in the Annual. I, Linda Lumpkin, will to my younger relatives the ability to hold the positions I held in my Senior Year ... I will to Mrs. Macon a box of safety pins to replace all those I borrowed during my school years. I, John Whalen, will to Roy Jenkins my ability to leave school grounds and classes without getting caught ... I also will my dictatorship at GHS to Mr. Coggin. I, Laurel Johnson, will to Donna Watkins some diet pills so she will stop complaining about how fat she is I also will to Mrs. Barnett my sweetness so that when she looks at Greg, she’ll remember me. I, Sylvester Hatten, will to my brother the ability to be as good as I was ... I will to Coach Jackson the ability to have a successful team next year and win State Championship. I, Gary Hall, will to the Junior Class the best as next year’s Seniors ... I also will to Coach Jackson a winning season next year. I, Agnes Shipmon, will to Mrs. Hutley a pack of Bubble Yum because its flavor last a good long time. I, Cynthia Akins, will to M s. Bethune the ability to bake cakes as well as my mother and I. I, Freddie Jones, will to any athlete the ability to be as good as I was during my football career at GHS. I, Cindy Martin, will to Dawn Clark all the good times I had in my Senior year ... I also will to Mrs. Whatley my big mouth so that she can be heard during assemblies. I, Gloria Jakes, will to Mickey and Michael Langford the ability to stick together as twins ... I also will to Mrs. Bouie the ability to dress out and participate with the next year’s volleyball team. I, Brenda Britt, will to Greg Stanley my good looks. I, Mary Green, will to all my friends my ability to get the things I want. I, Kenny Dyer, will to Rusty Potter, Greg Nicodemus, and David Howell, the ability to love others, and try, no matter how hard it seems, to love themselves ... I also will to Mrs. Toole the ability to pick as good an annual editor as she did this year. Senior Reflections Yeah, I’m a senior, so what about it? So, there’s only two weeks left of school, and then I’m out in the big world. Can’t wait until graduation night ... it’s gonna be great. I’ll cruise up front, grab that diploma, say, “thanks buddy,” and run, S’pose I don’t know where I’m running to, though. Before, all I did was follow the rest of those darn rowdies. I knew I could always find someone at a game, a party, Jr. Food’s, or chowing down at Chandler’s after school. But now it’s gonna be different. We’re all going to take off and try to make it on our own. Listen to this joke-letting graduation get to him after twelve years of being a hard guy. Oh, geez ... Yea, it s time to make the scene in class ... guess I might even miss that when it’s over. Check ya later, buddy! Thanks, see ya, bye. It’s graduation and it’s unbelievable that I’m here. They’ll call my name, in a few minutes, and I’ll walk up to receive my diploma ... where do I go from there? I’ve always had the security the school routine and its activities, surrounded by the friends I was so familiar with. Now we’ll all be going in different directions, and I wonder how long it will be before, the memories that meant so much start to fade. After twelve years of this you would think I would be ready to move on, but I feel like, I’m leaving a part of me behind. Maybe that’s good though, because I really have changed in the five years that I’ve been here. Well, pretty soon they’ll get to my name. Then I’ll be up there, and it’ll be all over. In a way I guess everything’s really just beginning. 116 j 'TV T, A rrf : - ■ =6 OJU $ ' 7 ff ' r -i ‘M UJ ,’s 7 m,- 54 -‘ Final Thanks from Editor As editor of the 1981 BULLDOG, I am privileged to have been granted a page in ur annual to dedicate to the many beautiful people at Greensboro, who so truly deserve the gn itest gift, I, as a Sr., and the graduating class of 1981 can give, our love, not spoken love, but th love which comes from within a man’s or woman’s heart.
