Without you our trek would be futile. With all these things in mind, we dedicate to you, our parents, the 1968 BULLDOG. DEDICATION The pathways through high school are memorable ones. We hope that through this book, we have portrayed a span of these pathways to the future upon which each of us travels. Education is in itself a wide and heavily traveled pathway. There are many forks in this pathway-each leading to some goal set by those who are traveling upon it. Just as some roads are unpaved, so are some pathways to success unpaved. There are many rough and threatening sections. However, if the goal is kept in view, all difficulties can be surmounted, and the pathway will have served its purpose of furnishing a means of guidance. 3 ANNUAL STAFF STANDING: Wayne Shepard, Sports Manager; Robert Suber, Business Manager; Wayne Brandon. I, Marcine Phillips, bequeath my position as Captain of the volleyball team (incidentally, Gadsden County Champions) to Nell Peters. I, Robert George Suber, will my long hair and witty personality to Billy Van Landingham. I, Catherine Durham, leave my quite ways to Susan Clark. I, Betty Fletcher, will my ability to be first drummer in the Greensboro Band, to Clavin Essman. I, Wayne Brandon, leave my long arms and legs to Billy Clark. I, Bobby Clark, reluctantly relinquish my seat on the bus beside Brenda Kever to Stan Shepard. I, Rosalyn Fletcher, will my natural blonde streak to Susan Smith. I, Janet Bentley, will my ability to go steady for almost two years to Sue Smith. I, Ronnie Clark, leave my extra pounds to Billy Van Landingham. I, Wayne Shepard, will my good fortune in being elected Boy of the Month to my cousin Bobby Shepard. I, Ronald Tolar, gladly bestow all my positions as accompanist to Kathryn Agerton. This we affirm to be our last will and testament, whereof we have set our hands and seal this twentieth day of May in the year of our Lord ninetten hundred sixty-eight. CLASS PROPHECY Twinkle, twinkle, little star. How we wonder who you are; Like a spaceship in the sky, The 68 class has finally flashed by.” My! I never thought that ten years could be such a long time, but now that it has arrived, the '68 graduating class is looking forward to their reunion here at the Universal Plaza, one of the largest Space Hotels in the Universe. All of the graduates have discovered a great future and I'rh sure they don't mind sharing it with you. The problem is, where should we start? Oh, look! Here comes Shirley Rowan on her flying liquor jug, singing that old favorite tune, White Li itning , from the Space Hills of Alakazam. That's a great start Shirley. Now, on with the Future. We see that Bobby G. Sansom has renewed his membership with the schoolboard patrol as car attendant and doorman here at the Universal Plaza. Ronnie Clark and Ronnie Faircloth are now co-owners and co-operators of the biggest Space Craft-Parts Center this side of the Milky Way. We see that Eunice Moody yet retains her ability to run track. She now runs the Supersonic Elevator here at the Plaza. Bobby Clark, a former student of Mrs. Stalling's speech class, is now teaching several new methods of speaking, one of which is mumbling. Good luck Bobby. Oh, just wait till you hear this! We just received a spaceogram from our former Vice-President, Russell Smith. He regrets that he will be unable, to attend our class reunion here at the Plaza because he is still pumping gas at Fletcher's Space Station. We are awful sorry Russell. Yes, everyone seems to be getting along fine, especially Linda Butler and Wayne Brandon. We stopped by the desk to check the register. To our surprise we found that Linda and Wayne were sharing the bridal suite. The former Miss Butler is now entertaining here doing the Lady-in-Red, ” for which she is so famous back in the states. Her husband is the famous center for the Universal Spacetrotters basketball team. He's currently averaging an infinite number of space points per game. We see that Marcine Phillips' athletic ability is still with her, she's now the recreation director here at the Plaza. Catherine Durham still obtains her title as the best dressed waitress in space. Janet Bentley is now employed with the International Space. School of Languages. She is the Associate Professor of English there. Nice going Jan. We see that Ronald Tolar and Dotty Fletcher have finally gotten together. They have been received their Ph. D. degree from the Franz Liszt Conservatory of Music and will present their debut concert here tonight. They are better known as the Solar-Tolars. We see Betty Fletcher still obtains her editing ability, she is now editor of the Outer Space Herold. Look out! Here comes Merilyn Haire on her 1978 Space Scooter. Merilyn now nurses the persons injured in space scooter accidents. We see, aften ten long years of struggling, Robert Suber has finally graduated from Abraham Baldwin's Aeronautical College. Robert now plans to further his education in the field of Animal Aeronautics by workins on his Master's Degree, which he hopes to obtain by the turn of the century. Rosalyn Fletcher is now President of the Interplaneterial Space Bank. She wrote a book entitled A MILLION A MINUTE. Last, but not least, the senior class is proud to know that Wayne Shepard, our former class president, is continuing his leadership ability. He is now President of the Universe. Wayne now presides in his office in Greensboro, the capitol of the Universe. He plans to drop his work and attend our reunion. Twinkle, twinkle, little star, Now everyone knows who you are; Like a spaceship through the age; You're the class of '68. ” 20 Queen Contestants wait for the exciting moment for the 1968 Queen's name to be called out. 21 HOMECOMING QUEEN CONTESTANTS SHIRLEY ROWAN HALLOWEEN QUEEN 23 Shirley Rowan JUNIOR MISS CONTESTANTS LINDA BUTLER JANET BENTLEY JUNIORS Homeroom Teacher - MR. Bryant, a 6-3 junior forward, in the Bulldogs' last eight games has averaged 26.9 points and is among the top five scorers in the area. Last week he paced Greensboro to a pair of victories, getting 24 points against Bristol on Tuesday and 32 against Altha on Friday. Most of the top scorers in the Bend slipped a bit last week . . . except for leader Olan Nobles of Greenville and No. 2 Lamar Eden-field of Altha. Nobles hit 36 points Tuesday night as the Pirates topped Madison, then got 34 Friday night in a loss to Trenton, while Edenfield had 26 against Greensboro and 34 against Graceville. Is Tops Wayne Brandon of Greensboro got 59 points in three Bulldog contests as his team figured in two upsets. Greensboro had a 12-game winning streak snapped at Havana Friday night, but followed up by knocking off Quincy Saturday night. 49 BASKETBALL OUR HISTORY 1956 was a big year in the Big Bend area and especially in Greensboro. This year marked the beginning of the 1968 Seniors’ long and arduous journey through the halls of education. Oh, you lucky world! Our first degrading experience was having to take naps - we thought we had outgrown those. Oh well! It was in the first grade that Russell and Wayne B. discovered they were not supposed to kiss girls on the playground. A paddling from Mrs. Green set them straight - temporarily. Oh joy of joys, the see-saws were built in our second year! It was also this year that Rosalyn and Janet found money buried on the playground. Their good fortune soon vanished upon the appearance of the owner who vociferously laid claim to it. Remember the Hula-hoop craze in the third grade? Everyone whirled dizzily round and round the playground. Maybe it was the effect of the Hula-hoop that caused us to see ghost in the bathroom. At any rate a near disaster was created because we were afraid of those bathroom spectors. We learned to really enjoy doing arithmetic in the third grade, but of course our greatest achievement was a recitation taught to us by Dale Fletcher which we were certain represented the epitome of literary achievement: Gitchy gee, Gitchy guy Gitchy con-stan-sty Gitchy nople, Gitchy pople Gitchy con-stan-ti-nople At last we attained the fourth grade, only to learn that our beloved recess was no more. Not only this, but the fact that we were to be divided, added to our misgivings. Of course taking flutaphone lessons brightened our lives considerably. In the fifth grade, basketball and junior majorettes took second place only to teacher having the mumps. It was during this era that Teresa's misinterpreted theory came to light - Ben Franklin invented girls! 1961 - we finally made it; Teresa and Robert were King and Queen of the May Court. Sixth grade - wow! Homework in every book the first day! It couldn’t get worse - we thought; Miss Willis didn't complain a bit when they moved her into high school Spanish. Mrs. Bailey stepped right from College into our classroom, she didn’t need experience to be good but strict - she never let her hair down. Sixth graders were allowed to go to lunch early in order to get to band practice on time. It became a daily ritual to say a prayer in the lunchroom before going to the bandroom to meet our maker (Mr. Jones), where we played heavenly (?) music. As a culmination of our first six years we held graduation exercises in the auditorium and thereby left our carefree days behind us. Little did we know what was in store for us as we were trustingly led into the Master's den. Quiveringly we entered and found our seats, only to be met with an outburst of sharp, clear-cut commands - NO BUBBLE GUM! Stay in your seats! Don’t be late! etcetera, etcetera; Rosalyn and Teresa soon learned how to ask before leaving class. The entire class learned how to execute a sharp about face upon encountering Mr. Marcus bearing down on us nonchalantly swinging his trusty paddle. Mr. Yelvington found that swatters and sprays were expendable in his study hall. A rubber band and a paper wad was all Moffett needed to do away with that fly on Bobby's head. From seventh grade timidily we moved on to eighth grade bravado and Mr. Yelvington. His favorite discipline was three hard licks and a quarter for the victum. Don't forget that was the year of trick or treatin' and the Great Square Pumpkin. This was a very problematic time for some, especially those who had difficulty in making decisions. For example, Merilyn couldn't decide whether to run or stand still, so while she was thinking about it Benny ran her down with his scooter. She thinks faster now. Do you suppose Mr. Bohannon ever found out about the Sleepy Time Girls using the bandroom to catch up on lost sleep? And they were the ones who objected to naps in the first grade. Oh those doughnut parties! Best way in the world to study (?) biology. Speaking of biology - wonder whatever happened to Mr. Character? Our capacity was reduced to bird brain” efficiency according to Mr. Harris. Our Sophomore year was a big one though. Janet won the Halloween Queen Contest and our float won first place in the Homecoming parade. As Juniors we again won first place for our homecoming float. Some of our girls began their nursing careers as Candy Stripers. Poor Mr. Bryant had to listen to our homeroom haggle every morning. It was during our Junior year that Ronald presented a brilliant performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue at the Spring Band Concert. All learned the ins and outs of angles and figures in Mr. Richardson's Advanced Algebra. Even Wayne B. learned a little while washing the formula filled chalk boards. Of course the real high light of this next to the last year was the Prom we gave for the Seniors. We took them to a sidewalk Cafe in Paris and entertained them royally. Now with the end of our journey in view, it is evident that we have not been an idle class. This year already we have had two lovely enteries in the Jr. Miss Pageant, Farm Bureau Talent Show winners, and again our class was proud to sponsor the winner of the Halloween Queen Contest. Ronald presented the first student piano recital to be held in Greensboro High School. Those represent only a Tew of our many accomplishments. We are now ready to take the big stride into our separate futures with confidence and sincerity. 51 With the help of the cheerleaders and the enthusiastic Bulldog boosters, the basketball team was able to win a victory of 71 to 67 against the Bristol Bulldogs. This was our tenth straight win of the season. 52 ELEMENTARY SIXTH GRADE Mrs. Middleton Ronnie seems to think coke is the most refreshing thing about a party.
