It all began, a new kind of life for thirty-one small children. We were a little sad to leave our beds where we so often had slept late, but in another sense we were happy to be like our older brothers, sisters and friends who had already started on toward an education. During our first year we were divided into two separate first grades. One was taught by Mrs. Martha Green, and the other by Mrs. Ford Larkin. How either put up with all of us no one will ever know. In the second grade we were all joined together as one class with Mrs. Kathleen Rowan as our teacher. We really thought we were big shots that years. The moment we got to school, we were so eager to sit in our desks as second graders, but we had to wait. The door was locked. That was our first lesson on rushing and being brought up short. Our next year in the third grade really brought a big change. Mrs. Marco Shepard taught us the rules of discipline and how to write instead of printing. Mrs. Pauline Smith was the lucky one in the fourth grade. She taught us our Multiplication tables. Also, we began playing behind the school with the 5th and 6th graders as we formed new friendships that year. We began growing up a little (so WE thought) by the fifth grade. Mrs. Emmie Lou Love was our teacher, and a very good one, spending hours making interesting projects to involve our skills. In the sixth grade we were taught by Mrs. Eloise Davis. The big project of the year was a trip to the Marianna Caverns. It’s a mere wonder that half of us didn't get lost. Even though the red bugs bit us, the trip was an inspiration and a success we will never forget. The teacher who met us at the door this year was a man, Mr. George Marcus who hadn't had a birthday since he was sixteen years old. The something very new to us this year was changing classes and teachers all day long. It didn't take us long, however, to master the right directions to classes. In the eighth grade our homeroom teacher, Mrs. Shirley Clark, helped us make an unforgettable trip to the Stephen Foster Memorial. By the ninth grade, we began getting the credits we would need to graduate. That year Mrs. Fletcher, our homeroom teacher as well as English teacher, taught us the responsibility of studying. In the tenth grade Mr. Lewis Jones taught us what responsibility really meant. The eleventh grade was taught by Mr. L. N. Monds. Receiving our class rings and presenting a play, A Ready Made Family which was coached by Mrs. Fletcher, were the highlights of our Junior year. Now we are called Seniors. Through the years we have lost a few students and gained a few, but our thirty Seniors are happily awaiting June 2. Mr. George Marcus has guided us through the most part of this year with high hopes for the vast world which lies ahead, waiting to be conquered. School Days School Days School Days 32 1951-52 1952-53 1951-52 PROPHECY In 1974 we prophesy that: Mildred Edwards will be head librarian at Florida State University. Vann Bryant, after being a champion pig raiser for eight years, has entered politics and is now Commissioner of Agriculture. Shirley Blocker has taken Della Street’s place as secretary for Perry Mason. Betty Jo Faircloth will be the owner of a big chain of dime stores. Billy Richards will be a physical education instructor for elementary school boys at Greensboro. Martha Suber will be a noted fashion designer and designs the wardrobe for the president's wife. Earline Godwin, who always liked to draw, is an artist for McCall's Magazine. Sharon Deal has accepted the position as head bookkeeper at Fletcher Co. so that she might be near her husband who also works there. Danny Blount is the owner and producer of the I Love Linda show. Jane Clark will be a social worker in the slum areas of New Orleans. Benny Fenn owns and operates all the service stations in Greensboro.
