The one who stands behind our library, always willing to lend a helping hand, is Mrs. Josephine Macon. Mrs. Macon has shared the responsibility of writing good term papers and good book reports with students for many years. Mrs. Macon is outstanding in her field, not only does she give information, but helps to make our library one of the most pleasant rooms of the school with her up-to-date bulletin boards. Mrs. Macon, the Senior Class of 1963 salutes you for your devotion to the student body as a whole. Thank you for helping to make an education more interesting. 15 Clinton Donald Maxwell Alan A” TEAM si 17 Jane Clark Jackie Proctor Danny Blount Martha Suber Curtis Fletcher Donna Smith 19 FAREWELL TO GREENSBORO HIGH Dear classmates, now the time has come, When we must say, Good-bye, ' To friends and teachers, kind and true, And dear old GREENSBORO HIGH. y% i We're sad to leave the halls; For happy days, so free from care, ■ We've spent within these walls. This year a trip was awarded to Glenda Fletcher, by the State Home Demonstration Service for her achievement in frozen foods. This involved selecting, preparing, packaging and freezing vegetables and fruit and also keeping accurate records of her project. Having completed her seventh year in 4-H work, Glenda is president of the Greensboro Senior Club and council delegate of the Deck Fletcher Club. During her first year in 4-H, her steer won a medal in the annual Fat Cattle Show and Sale; during her second year Glenda won a medal in home economics; her third and fourth years, medals in food preparation; and last year, a medal in frozen foods and first place in the county. to ro Vzr- The student body of Greensboro high should be proud of the privilege to be a student in any class Mr. George Marcus instructs. Not only does he help each individual in class work, but also to gain a richer understanding of life and the people involved. Mr. Marcus, is not only a superior teacher but a fine person with an outstanding sense of humor as well. To us he stands in the spotlight--the Seniors of 1963 unanimously choose him as our FAVORITE TEACHER! As the seniors of 1963 end their long twelve years of school, we look around to thank the ones we have depended on. We feel the entire faculty has helped us to achieve our goals throughout the years, but our greatest appreciation goes to Mrs. Bernice Toole. She has helped us to achieve the satisfaction of getting more out of what we do. We especially appreciate the work she has done on our school paper and the time she has contributed to make our school yearbook complete. We take this opportunity to say a special THANK YOU. In selecting our FAVORITES this year, it was our desire to add two FAVORITE TEACHERS. We extend our sincere appreciation to ALL of our teachers who have worked with us through the years; however, as in the case of our selection of class favorites, we had to select TWO. So, to these two teachers, we wish to say again, THANK YOU! 23 MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Sharon Miller Dean Fenn MOST TALENTED Mary Ann Mercer Curtis Fletcher MOST POPULAR Donna Smith Edward Taylor MOST BASHFUL Patsy Smith Edward Taylor 24 BEST ALL AROUND Carol McAlpin Donald Bentley MOST FLIRTATIOUS Carolyn Shepard Maxwell White FRIENDLIEST Donna Smith Jackie Proctor MOST RELIABLE Rena Clark Dean Fenn 25 CUTEST Donald Bentley Rena Clark MOST STUDIOUS Laurette Faircloth Tommy Hosey MOST ATTRACTIVE Carolyn Shepard Jackie Proctor BEST PERSONALITY Patsy Smith Curtis Fletcher 26 CUSTODIAN Mr. Ed Martin LUNCHROOM STAFF Mrs. Hoffman Mrs. Cox Mrs. Boykin Mrs. Monds; also, Mrs. Moore, who was not present at the time. 27 Larry M. Our first grade teacher, Mrs. Floyd Green, made sure that we got sufficient rest by making us put our heads on our desks. In the second grade, we were greeted by Mrs. Doc Rowan. This year we learned to read, write, count, and tell time. Mrs. Marco Shepard was our teacher in the third grade. She taught us how to follow instructions by wearing blisters on our hands with rulers. In the fourth grade, we had 32 students. This year Mrs. Carl Smith taught us our multiplication tables and we had our first geography lesson. We were entertained in the fifth grade by Mr. Henry Earl Ferrell. All 37 of us enjoyed his beautiful singing that year. He also taught us how to spell the states and capitals. By the time we became sixth graders, we must have really been mean, because we had four different teachers that year. But we finally ended up with Mrs. Clark. As seventh graders, we learned to stop chewing gum, because Mr. George B. Marcus was prepared to teach us what we hadn't learned. We found out that Mr. Marcus was only 16 years old, and had been for years! In the eighth grade, with 35 members in our class, we really felt big, because we could change classes. Ah, what fun it was to be freshmen, when we earned our first five credits. This really made us feel grown up. Mrs. Reno Fletcher was our sponsor. As sophomores, we had Mr. Lewis Jones as our sponsor. He taught us to be on time. Now, we were Juniors. Mr. L. N. Monds was our sponsor, and our American History teacher. This year we did our first research paper. We also got our class rings while we were juniors. At last we are SENIORS! All eighteen of us are eagerly awaiting May 31, when we will graduate. By now we have an idea of what we will be doing for our careers. Mr. Jack Yelvington worked very diligently with us on the plans for our SENIOR TRIP. As I turned, I saw near my chair a queer little creature which I could not classify, it wasn't strickly human and yet I had never before of all my study of natural history seen any creator like it. Before I had time to ask the customary questions, When and where were you born? Are you white or black? Single or married? What is your favorite breakfast food? The strange little visitor asked in a mighty voice, the first notes that made me jump out of my chair. Are you the student who has been selected as the prophet for the class of Greensboro High for 1963? If you are, the creature went on quickly, before I had time to utter a word, I see by your look that it is indeed necessary that I should help you. It was a wise act when I was sent to you. Sent to me, I ejaculated, my curiosity overcoming my fear. By whom? AH said the shape, I suppose that you have not heard of the curriculum which has a new movement. Yes, was the quick reply, the curriculum of all the schools in the United States. Then, I exclaimed, '1 suppose that you are a Curriculum. Of course, I see that you know a little Latin, was the angry reply. We have united together to help the poor over-worked teachers and to assist you with the prophecy for the Greensboro graduating class. First and foremost, CAROL McALPIN will become the president of the United States. Hold on there, I exclaimed, don't you know that that's a girl's name? What of it? was the retort, now that women have the ballot, they'll soon relieve the men of the few duties, and women presidents will be as common as queens. But I have no time to argue about that. I'm due at another school in a few minutes so here goes. JACKIE PROCTOR will become the most famous cook in the whole wide world. Oh, hold on, I said, You don't seem to have any ideas in the signifances of names. Where have you lived all your life not to know that Jackie is a boy's name? Of course, but if the girls are all presidents and other officials, the men will have to do the cooking. I reckon, unless you think we'll live without eating in these wonderful days. And now please don't interrupt me again, no matter what I say. LAURETTE FAIRCLOTH is to become a famous biologist and will discover some of nature's deepest secrets, for example, why an oyster isn't a tadpole, and similar never before solved problems. TOMMY HOSEY is to be an artistic millionaire. Now don't tell me that there are no men millionaires. Perhaps none at the present, but since the cubist and their ilk, realist and impressionists will have destroyed art, the only outlet for a man's artistic nature must be in bonnets at one hundred dollars per, and their WILL be money in it at that time. VADA FINUFF will become an architect and will design a tabernacle for Billy Graham, which will be the eighth wonder of the world. Oh come now I said all out of patients your getting crazy again--a woman architect? Certainly, the creature answered sharply, no man could do it. Men's vision are too narrow. It will need a woman's broad thought, her airy visions, and etc. I will concede the point, I answered. Go on, who's next? DEAN FENN will run a large steam laundry in Chicago. A washerwoman with all his talents! . . . I groaned, this is too much. It needs talents to run a laundry, and this will be a model one, nothing will ever be lost there, and nothing will ever be starched that should not. There was DONNA SMITH, the tallest and homeliest girl in the class, her favorite occupation gum chewing and her favorite study the volleyball reports. Changing in course of time to the basketball scores. SHARON MILLER will become a railroad president. She will hunt up a truly domestic man for her mate and they will live in everlasting bliss. • 41 Now we are out in the middle of a 6,000 acre ranch, and out in the middle of the ranch is a ranchouse. Who is that we see coming out of the house. Well I'll be it's none other than CURTIS FLETCHER, JULIAN SANSOM, and DONALD BENTLEY, the new owners. These boys sure have gone places, don't you think so? the wee little voice said. You're not serious about Curtis, Julian and Donald being partners are you? Why asked the little creature. Well, because they never got along in school. What's all the ruckus about, out in Hollywood? Well, now I see. A group of your former classmates are all praising the success of the play Modern People. What, my former classmates, movie stars! Well who are they? Well the movie stars are none other than DAVID BENTLEY and MAXWELL WHITE, who I understand are both former basketball players. They are proud to be sharing the honors with none other than CAROLYN SHEPARD, who is the top actress out there now. What's up now? everyone is rushing over to the door. They're pushing their way to a beautiful young lady, and a young man. No, it can't be, yep, that's who it is. It's PASTY SMITH the author of MODERN PEOPLE and Edward Taylor the director. I still don't believe it, I said; My former classmates, movie stars. Next on the line we have a champion in the crowd. Well, who is it? I asked impatiently. Well it is a wonder that a girl, so devoted to her books as MARY ANN MERCER could ever become so professional in tennis to win the College championship. The last of your former classmates is your president of 1963. That's right RENA CLARK. She's a real pop singer now. Her latest is He's My Hounddog Baby. Well, I be, they are well on there way up. But you mixed me up so dreadfully. I think that I could have done better myself, and what about all of these good fortunes? Alas, there is too much to relate, the creature exclaimed with a wink and a grinace and in another moment I was again in the twilight of my room with my thought. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT I, Vada Finuff, will my habit of sleeping in English class to Martha Suber. I, Patsy Smith, will my ability to graduate in twelve years, to my brother, Russell. I, Laurette Faircloth, will my quiet ways to Syble Alday. I, Mary Ann Mercer, will my weight and height to Linda Jemison. I, Carolyn Shepard, will my ability to be a bow-legged majorette to Sharon Proctor. I, Tommy Hosey, will my ability to be President of the Beta Club to Chubby Fletcher. I, Julian Sansom, will my blonde hair to Tracey Hanney. I, Donald Bentley, will my foul shot record to Wayne Shepard. I, Maxwell White, will my ability to dunk a basketball to Clinton Hobbs. I, Carol McAlpin, will my freckles to Alan Bentley. They iook good with blonde hair. I, Jackie Proctor, will my drumming abilities to Peggy Essman. I, David Bentley, will my height to Sandy VanLandingham. I, Rena Clark, will my ability to be president of the Senior class to my cousin, Jane, and my ability to get along with teachers to anyone. I, Curtis Fletcher, Jr., will my Electronic mind to Billy Richards. I, Sharon Miller, will my ability to represent Greensboro High School in the Miss Gadsden County Beauty Bageant to my sister, Martha Miller. I, Dean J.
