GREENSBORO HIGH SCHOOL GREENSBORO, FLORIDA SEATED, From left to right: Peggy Bentley, Joyce Edwards, James Hobbs, Ann Suber, Betty Potter. STANDING: Asst. Editor: Lavonia Clark, Lucille Bentley, Editor: Buddy Pitts, Hentz Fletcher, Asst. Editor: Mary Robinson, Eustice Shiver. 1 SPONSORED BY LARSON'S LUMBER CO. in The happiest school year in the life of any American boy or girl is the one in which he enters school for the first time. Our happy year was guided by our beloved Mrs. Martha Green. She was our shining light for whom our best efforts were given in love and devotion. We have held her never-failing concern for us during that year with highest regard as we have matured and realized that the debt that we owe her can never be paid. She showed us our first glimpse into the miracles yy of reading, writing, and arithmetic. We loved her for hery devotion to us when we were little people. She was the one who so firmly planted our steps toward our education. 2 PRINCIPAL AND SECRETARY Secretary--Mrs. Clark, Principal --Mr. Richardson BOARD OF EDUCATION SEATED, From Left to Right: E. H. I had lain there but a moment for that slumber calm and sweet When I rose refreshed and strengthened and I stepped upon the street, But I very soon discovered that I was in a foreign place, For I did not see a person with an old familiar face. Streamlined trains were in the station, airplanes flying through the air, Wonders beyond conception, here, and there, and everywhere! I could scarce believe my senses, when I saw the airship line Bore the well-known name of Greensboro,” which gleamed from every sign. My eyes were opened wider than they had ever been before When I spied a slip of paper dated 1974. And I saw a class-mate, Lucille Bentley, all dressed up in shiny white Walking toward the towering hospital where diseases she did fight. As I stood there on the corner, waiting for the lights to change, An ultra-modern double-decker came within my vision's range As it rolled into the station with its happy travelling fare, Hugh Macon was its driver, giving to them loving care. As I walked along the sidewalk, by the busy thoroughfare; Walking, wondering if the graduates of our class would all be there. Within a store so large and clean, stood a man I knew at sight; Tall and friendly, E. Hentz Fletcher made me welcome with all his might. We talked of good old high school days while he brought me up-to-date With reports of the class of '60 and what had been its fate. James Hobbs is a band leader of skill and fame for twenty records which bear his name. Kenny Richardson, goodness me! Always famous for his line, no less, has captured a lady--a French Marchioness. Lavonia Clark married a Lemieux and moved to lands afar. Eustice Shiver draws Snuffy Smith, and Buddy Pitts is a lawyer at the Bar. Jimmy Gould is a graduate engineer and often abroad is sent While Joyce Rudd stays at home with George and her children content. Louise Taylor, a fashion model, in another town is living; Christy Fletcher has become a teacher, Mary Robinson gives permanents for a living. Peggy Bentley is on the stage as an actress on T.V. Melvin Miller, a star on the screen, whose first hit we soon might see. Micki Delaney became an artist, painting portraits with great success. Joyce Edwards and Betty Potter, to the city have gone, good secretaries, you might guess. Franklin Edwards and Thomas Whittle, he added, are news-commentators known on the national hook-ups; Jerry Spivey, Everette Alday, and Marvin McCall are pilots who have not yet been involved in crack-ups. Hentz asked if I had read Ann Suber's book, a book of world-wide fame. Then I waked with a start to realize that my chair was just the same. Yet my dreams seem real as I write them down. And I wonder if we'll come to such great renown. 22 CLASS HISTORY One dark, cloudy morning in September 1948 a group of frightened, but ambitious students started their long journey of trials and hardships. Mrs. Floyd Green greeted us with a worried look on her face. She had the pleasure of trying to teach us to count. In the second grade, Mrs. Kathleen Rowan tried with all her might to teach us the fundamentals of Arithmetic. Mary Robinson joined us this year. Mrs. Marco Shepard, our teacher in the third grade, always kept our undivided attention by stomping her feet. During our trip down the Amazon in the fourth grade, Mrs. Carl Smith taught us the customs of peoples in many different countries. Mr. Bill Dunnavant was our victim in the fifth grade. We were taught the multiplication tables by Mr. Marcus. In the sixth grade, Mrs. Ford Larkin attempted to teach us the value of fractions. This was the year that Kenny Richardson and Melvin Miller joined us. Mr. Marcus ruled supreme in the seventh grade. His famous motto was Tattle Tale, Paddle Tail. In the eighth grade, Miss Mildred Smith was our homeroom teacher. Louise Taylor joined our happy group this year. Mr. Wiley P. Shouppe fought the battle against us in the ninth grade. We were happy to have Christy Fletcher join us. Our tenth grade homeroom teacher was Mr. Hartzog. We can’t understand how he survived the year. Mr. Clarence Boynton kept us quiet in the eleventh grade. We chose Dear Diary as our Junior Play. Mrs. Fletcher was a nervous wreck by the time of the presentation. Marvin McCall became a member of our class this exciting year. Our Senior class sponsor was Mr. L. N. Monds. Mrs. Richardson had the PLEASURE of carrying us through the tiresome hours of practice on our Senior Play Handy Man. We are looking forward to graduation with a happy, but yet sad feeling of departure. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT Hentz Fletcher, with his ability to lose everything in his possession, wills the Student Council Records to Billy Proctor, if he can find them. James Hobbs, as he is rapidly becoming bald, wills his curly, blond hair style to Mr. Marcus. Marvin McCall leaves his foxy methods of skipping school to Durwood Suber. Buddy Pitts, so steadfast in love to one and only one, wills his natural talent in this field to anyone who wants to be happy. Thomas Whittle wills his mischievous disposition to Don Dean. Everett Alday, having nothing to will, asks for a contribution from someone who will will him a high school diploma. Louise Taylor wills her duck tail hair-cut to Betty Sue Smith. Micki Delaney wills her ability to paint anything and everything to Sue Suber. Joyce Rudd wills her ability to be the first married member of the senior class to Pat Edwards. Hugh Macon wills his ability to get good-looking girls to Brad Suber. Christy Fletcher wills her quiet ways to Rosa Lee Dickey. Melvin Miller, who says he has nothing in this world to will, requests you wait until he has gone out and made his fortune. Eustice Shiver, our class cartoonist, wills his talent with the pencil to Robert Sellers. Betty Potter wills her ability to work in the 10 cent store to Patsy Barr. Jerry Spivey wills his quick temper to Joe Chester. Lucille Bentley wills her outstanding clarinet playing to the Dean twins, Marjorie Margaret. Joyce Edwards wills her chattering ability to Jane Clark. Franklin Edwards wills his ability to master the art of benchwarming to Randolf King. Kenny Richardson wills his sweet talk and balloon of hot air, used on the feminine sex, to Albert Mercer. 23 Billy Proctor - Christy Fletcher Buddy Pitts - Micki Delaney Hentz Fletcher - Lavonia Clark Sponsored by Dr. Fellows Kenny Richardson - Ann Suber MOST ATTRACTIVE Joyce Edwards and Kenny Richardson MOST RELIABLE Betty Potter and Franklin Edwards MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Ann Suber and Jimmy Gould 25 BEST ALL AROUND Lavonia Clark and Hentz Fletcher [ima BEST PERSONALITY Christy Fletcher and Buddy Pitts FAVORITES MOST TALENTED Eustice Shiver and Micki Delaney MOST POPULAR James Hobbs and Peggy Bentley MOST ATHLETIC Marvin McCall and Louise Taylor MOST STUDIOUS Joyce Rudd and Mary Robinson 27 fcIGHIH GRADE B.
