Class History It was a bright sunny morning in September of 1947, when a group of happy kids were met at the first grade door by Mrs. Floyd Green. Thirty-six students started the long journey with us. Mrs. Green had the pleasure of teaching us our A B C's. Mrs. Rowan met us at the door of the second grade with the Spelling and Arithmetic books. Mrs. Marco Shepard had to contend with us in the third grade. We were well behaved this year. She knew how to use the ruler to make us understand. Mrs. Boyd was our victim in the fourth grade. We kept her going round and round in circles trying to keep us quiet. Mrs. Dorwin Peer was our teacher in the fifth grade. We learned to spell the forty-eight states. Mr. Nathan Johnson taught us our states and capitols in the sixth grade. Mr. Marcus ruled supreme in the seventh grade. This was our first year of changing classes. We thought we were something. Mr. Monds was our teacher in the eigl ;h grade. He survived the year with us to later teach us again. Mr. Shouppe was our teacher in the ninth grade. We still don't understand how he managed to last a year. Mr. Hartzog had to worry about us in the tenth grade, although, he probably wished he had been in the band room when he had to listen to us. Miss Mary Allen came back this year and became Mrs. Reno Fletcher and also our eleventh grade teacher. She helped us select our Junior play, Aunt Tillie Goes to Town. We also ordered our rings this year. Mr. Monds was the one who had to listen to our complaints during our Senior year. And, there were plenty of them. Our Senior play was entitled, Professor, How Could You. Prophecy Let's look into the future ten years from now, in the year 1969 in Hawaii. Look over there. All the natives on the island must be there and the leis are beautiful; they spent days making them. You see, the Senior Class of 1959 is having a reunion. You know, they gave a banquet here in the Club Cocoanut in 1959. Look! Coming out of the jungle with a magnifying glass and a telescope, the great scientist VERNON HOLCOMBE. He came over about six weeks before the rest to do some exploring. Quite a renowned scientist now; looking for some kind of dodo bug. Let's walk over and see who's coming down the gangplank. Who's yelling? Listen! Charles, Jr. come down, you'll fall overboard. Yea Ma, coming. Oh, (ha ha) that's JUDY BLANTON with her small brood. One, two, three, goodness four little boys. She even brought her husband. Family reunion, I guess! Surprise! ! ! There's WAYNE BOWEN. It's hard to believe he's not in Korea; it seems that is where he thought he was going. It's good he didn't, you see, Joann and WAYNE have a Jr., five years old. Look who's following in his father's footsteps. LANIER SUBER keeping law and order on the boat. But I hear he raised more cane on board than the other passengers. Ask JOANN SHEPARD, she knows. (She's Paramount's new discovery.) LARRY BLACK is being consoled by his many feminine admirers, he just can't ride on a ship, you know, seasickness. Why he even dropped his trumpet overboard. He thought that leaning over the rail to play his trumpet would help. Now RONALD LEMIEUX is playing it. Here comes JEAN BLOUNT; she went to Jacksonville and now is owner of Cohen's Department Store. She started at the bottom (selling pots and pans in the basement.) Walking besides Jean is ANNE BLOCKER, who lives in Starke, owner of Hollywood Camera and Gift Shop. Larry Haire has followed somewhat in his Father's footsteps, but instead of just running a branch of Standard Oil Company, he struck oil in California and the Standard Oil Co. is now known as the Haire Oil Company. You can see the diamonds in his 14k gold cane. As soon as they graduated, CAROLYN ROWAN and BIT POTTER came over to Hawaii and are very, very experienced hula-hula girls ! They seem to be giving the boys a thrill, especially TOMMY TOOLE and ELDRIDGE EDWARDS. TOMMY is president of Puff Puff Cigar Company, and ELDRIDGE is Vice President. ALICE SANSOM is a wonderful nurse, in fact, she was made head nurse at Mayo Clinic just last month. She was helping perform an appendectomy on Elvis Presley (star raiser of feet) when the doctor made a mistake and Alice grabbed the scalpel, finished the operation and she is now wheeling E. P. from the ship in a wheelchair . . . Boy, they look happy. We find that ANN FINUFF has taken up housekeeping and raising kids while Phillip is now star farmer of Bradford County. Look! Getting off the ship is the first woman President of the United States of America, VIRGINIA DEAN. Let's take a stroll from the ship to the club. What's this a family quarrel, CAROL HAIRE is throwing cocoanuts at Buddy. Seems like Buddy wants some money for a toy lizard and CAROL doesn't want to waste it. Wonder who has all the money in that family? Look who just walked in. ANN HALL and her husband James. ANN started washing pots and pans before we graduated, but I see she made it alright today. That is the class of 1959. You see each and every one has succeeded. We the senior class of 1959 owe our success to the teachers and principals who have struggled with us and whom we have struggled with for twelve years. 12
