Mrs. Floyd Green was a good teacher even if it did take us all year to learn the A B C's. The second year of our school life we were greeted at the door by Mrs. Rowan. This year we caught up with John Goodwin and George Rudd, besides leaving quite a few behind in the first grade. We really thought we were big shots because this year we learned to write instead of print. Miss Sara Howard kept us in line this year. In the fourth grade Mrs. Harry Anderson was our victim. Every time her back was turned, we had an eraser fight. Geraldine Weeks and Jewel Shiver joined us this year. Mrs. Martha Mae McPherson tried to teach us our states and capitols in the fifth grade. She wasn't very successful though. Everyone remembers our Chinese party in the sixth grade. Mrs. Jack Hyatt, our teacher, gave us plenty of art work which everyone seemed to enjoy. We really thought we were It in die seventh grade because we had our first male teacher, Mr. Marcus. We strutted our stuff because we were in high school, we thought. This year Betty Mercer joined our class. Our eighth grade was one that we will long remember. Our teacher, Mr. Dorwin Peer, was always telling jokes. This year we started changing classes and somehow we always managed to end up in the wrong class. Our ninth grade was full of enjoyment with our boys playing B team Basketball. We thought we were part of the school by being in the ball games. It didn’t take long to find out that we were only a small part of a great institution. In the tenth grade old Cupid came around and all our girls finally found a fellow. Of all the heartaches—we had them. We will long remember our classmate, Delicia Durden, who had to leave us unexpectedly. We will never regret a moment with her. The Junior Year was one of excitment and work. We were faced with the problems of a Junior Play and the selection of our class ring. Our play Finders Creepers was very successful and we think we have the prettiest ring any class has ever ordered. Then came the bright and glorious day when we were Seniors. This year our main interest was basketball because most of our class were related to the team in one way or another. This year Lois Ventry was chosen to be our first Homecoming Queen and Jewel Shiver was elected as the Tobacco Queen. Our sponsor was L. N. Monds. 14 Prophecy We, The Seniors of 1956-57, prophecy that in 1967 we will still be considered the smartest class to ever graduate from Greensboro High. Jewel Shiver will be running for Miss America since she hasn't persuaded one of her many boyfriends to marry her. Glyn Singletary, Luther Bowen, and Franklin Sharpton have gone into partnership and have become the richest men in South Africa. They got their start making $10 an hour. Larry Crosby, Jerry Smith, and Jerry Butler wanted to play professional basketball but they got hooked too soon. Larry married the former Betty Colvin and is the proud papa of six-all boys. Jerry Butler tried to get away from Ann Presnell but she had him by the ear before he graduated. Smitty always said that he wasn't going to get married for a long time after he graduated, but it didn't take Ann Granger long to change his mind. Dorothy Sizemore and Joyce McAlpin have been working as secretaries for Luther's, Franklin’s and Glyn’s Corporation. Geraldine Weeks has been Jewel's agent for the past few years but she is thinking seriously of getting married. So far she hasn't found the right one. Dewey Phillips and the former Marie Hunt were married as soon as they graduated. Marie stays home with their five brats while Dewey works at his gas station, which he bought from Floyd Green after working there for five years. John Goodwin lives in Rock Bluff where his wife preaches. He makes moonshine on the side. After going to Hollywood, Lois Ventry became one of the most popular actresses. She made three pictures with Rock Hudson before he retired. George Rudd has bought out Thomas Smith and is making plans to purchase the King Ranch in Texas. He always wanted to be a cowboy. Gerald Tolar has become the first governor of Florida to have red hair. Once he thought about dying it black, but now he considers it one of his greatest assets. Margaret Blount is the girls Phys. Ed. teacher in Providence. She decided to go there to teach after being turned down by Jimmy Fletcher. Donald Fletcher took flying lessons from Superman for two years in order to be able to make a fast trip to Bell Glade anytime he gets lonesome. Between trips he is the assistant county agent of Gadsden County. The one before him had a heart attack when he heard that Donald had made 500 bushels of corn per acre one year. Betty Mercer is a nurse at the hospital in Chattahoochee. At first she was at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville but she asked to be transferred to Chattahoochee so she could be near Jimmy Bentley.
