All of us were very excited over the idea of being in school but our joy was soon toned down by the whippings we received for disobeying Mrs. Green. Of the twenty-one students graduating this year only eight started off in the first grade at Greensboro. These were Carroll Brinson, Carol Clark, Charles Clark, Ann Fletcher, Sarah France Potter, Edward Rowan, Charles Shepard, and Yvonne Shepard. Mrs. Kathleen Rowan was waiting as our smiling faces marched through the Second Grade Door. Mrs. Rowan was always promising us a dollar is we could find a word without a consonant or a vowel; of course nobody ever won the dollar. We were entertained in the Third Grade by Miss Howard, who later on in the year changed her name to Mrs. Marco Shepard. This was the year we learned real writing. Walter Sharptonand Glenn Suber joined our happy group that year. In the Fourth Grade, Mrs. Harry Anderson held the ruler over our heads. This was a tough year because we were supposed to learn our multiplication tables. Mary Jean Butler and Harold Shepard joined us that year. We really had fun in the fifth grade trying out so many new teachers. That year we had about five different teachers. Mrs. Martha Mae McPherson started us off and Mrs. Thelma Crosby promoted us on to the sixth grade. While we were in the fifth grade Jimmy Clark, Harry Kennedy, and Phillip Blount joined us. We were confronted with the Principal's wife, Mrs. Jack Hyatt, in the sixth grade. Retha Alday came in to join our happy group that year. All of us were looking forward to the seventh grade taught by Mrs. Carl Smith. We felt that we were getting up to be real big because we were taking physical education with the high school students. Yvonne Whittle and Odessa Richards were added to our list that year. In the eighth grade, we started changing classes. This was somewhat confusing but with a homeroom teacher like Mr. Peer, we were soon taught how to change classes quietly. Mr. Jeff Bradford was waiting on us our Freshman Year. This was another year we learned to be quiet. That year the boys and girls divided so they could put on a decent chapel program. The girls came through theirs with only one mishap; the boys set the alarm clock to go off at the wrong time. Sandie Smith joined us that year. Miss Sue Young was our homeroom teacher in our Sophomore year. We were sort of rough and ruly but Mr. Richardson soon toned us down. Ruby McAlpin and Doris Miller became Sophomores that year. Mrs. Harris Francis was the victim of our Junior year. He fell under the hardship of being with us while we were selecting our class rings and Junior play. This was the year we entertained the Seniors at the beach for a day. So we finally reached the year when we could be called diginified Seniors. It was a year filled with pleasure and disappointments. When we found that the traditional Senior Skip Day and week end beach trip had been cancelled, we planned another trip. For our Senior Play we presented ''Good Gracious Grandma, (a professional play staged by amateurs) which turned out to be a howling success. The F T A. Club was organized during our senior year. It was spark-plugged by four senior members, Carol Clark, Doris Miller, Sarah Potter and Yvonne Shepard. We, and our sponsor, Mr. Mods, are looking forward to the day when we receive our diplomas. After twelve long years of hard labor, we want to, thank our teachers and our parents who have kept us in school. u ONCE UPON A TIME CLASS WILL I, Retha Alday, will my ability to be quiet in Study Hall to Judy Blanton. He has just discovered what makes the heart beat. Phillip Blount is Greensboro's leading doctor. His patients consist mainly of pretty, young, girls with lonely hearts . Ruby McAlpin, our artist, is in New York City. Ruby designs ladies dresses and also has her own dress shop. Retha Alday is Ruby's private secretary and agent. Rethais a popular writer of magazine articles on famous people She has just completed one on Carroll Brinson's Flight to the Moon. Walter Sharpton is now a five-star general in the National Guard. Walter has left a string of broken hearts in every port and still hasn't settled down. Odessa Richards is at present the United States champion roller skater. She has won several trophies and is working on the International Championship under the direction of her husband and agent. Mary Jean Butler is widely known for her musical talent in singing solos for weddings. Mary Jean is still fond of convertibles but hasn't settled for any one make. Doris Miller is leading her community in a new research for diamonds located somewhere in the vicinity of Sycamore. Doris has had many proposals but she can't bring herself to hurt the feelings of several fellows and say yes to just one. Carroll Brinson is nowone of the World's best aviators, he has made a non-stop trip to the moon in one of Glenn's souped-up airplanes. Carol Clark is one of Scratchankle's leading ladies. She is presently employed with one of the largest Chain stores in the world and is engaged to her boss's son. Edward Rowan is the most prosperous cattle grower in Gadsden County. Lover Boy still keeps his car busy going from Sycamore to Chattahoochee and Quincy. Yvonne Shepard attended Southern Business University in Atlanta, Georgia. Yvonne is presently employed at the Pine Grove Peanut Factory and is engaged to her boss, who is the mysterious Mr. X . Ann Fletcher is now employed with Fletcher Company as a private secretary. Ann hasn't yes to any one boy yet. We think she is waiting for that certain one to come along. Jimmy Clark is Gadsden County's most progressive tobacco grower. He owns two of the worlds largest tobacco factories in the world. it Harry Kennedy is owner of the largest Service Station in Greensboro. He hasn't made a choice of his many girl friends. Harold Shepard is married to Frances Ernest and they have five little boys who help Harold catch up on his hunting. Mrs. Mack Eubanks, the former Sandie Smith, is busy helping her coach husband win the State Tournament. Yvonne Whittle has taken over her father's chicken farm and she now raises 6,000 chickens a year. Yvonne is married to Charles Edwards and they have three little Edwards'es. Charles Shepard is now the farmer of the year in Pine Grove. Since Charles doesn't have time to propose, his ambition is to become a Millionaire. Sarah Frances Potter has changed her name to Mrs. Kelly Clark. They appear every Saturday night on the Grand Ole Opry ' and are nationally known as the Singing Troubadours. Charles Clark has become Scratchankle's one and only barber. One of his hobbies is teaching students at the newScratchankle school how to hunt and fish.
