rff 'Dwuk (fane H ue’ On September 3, 1941, we were sentenced to twelve long years of mental labor at Greensboro High School. Our first grade teacher, Mrs. Floyd Green, made sure we got sufficient rest by making us put our heads on our desks daily. In the second grade we were met by Mrs. Doc Rowan. We learned to read, write, count, and tell time in that grade. Miss Sara Howard was our teacher in the third grade. She wore blisters in our hands with her frequent ruler paddlings. That year Wesley, Vernon, Bernice, Robert, and Russell joined us. The fourth grade was our year of tea parties with Mrs. Harrison. Here we overtook Ruth and Dora Mae. We learned (and forgot) our states and capitols in the fifth grade. Mrs. McPherson was our teacher. We shall never forget the Easter egg hunt we had at her house. Our sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Tommy Green, really taught us the art of studying. Ernest was waiting for us there. Mrs. Carl Smith was our seventh grade teacher. We had many Science lessons about her bird dog. It was here that we began our series of swimming parties, which were to last through the twelfth grade. Our sponsor in the eighth grade was Miss Evelyn Johnson. Donald and Ruth well remember that year. Mrs. Fowler was constantly telling them to shut their sassy, impudent mouths. In the ninth grade we were met by Miss Dotothy Wamble. We had Physical Education fourth period and we were always the first ones to the lunchroom. Curtisteen and Shirley joined us there. Mr. Joe Sterling was our tenth grade sponsor. We all enjoyed the numerous trips we had in Biology. La Vern and Margaret joined our little group that year. At last we were Juniors. Mr. Robert Childs was our sponsor. Our Junior play, Hillbilly Courtship, was a huge success. That year we entertained the Seniors at the beach. Sonya still remembers her fall from the jeep. The day had arrived-we were Seniors. For our Senior play we presented Father of the Bride, a colossal hit. Mr. Robert N. Willis was our sponsor. We shall never forget his big vocabulary.

Senear Prafi6ecty Date: December 51, 1963 Place: Peanut's Night Club Affair: Class of '53 Reunion Soft music plays; corks pop; waiters dart skillfully, silently among the crowd; there is the soft hum of voices. Well, all the voices are soft but one. Ruth .Holland is expressing herself rather loudly about men and their many faults. Although Ruth is considered an expert on men, she has yet to select one for herself. Suddenly there is silence as two sailors and their wives enter. One couple is Billy and LaVern Shepard. Mrs. Shepard is the former LaVern Barton. The other couple is Edwin and Shirley Dean. Although Edwin left the class in its Junior year to work for Uncle Sam, his wife, the former Shirley Harris, graduated and attended college before getting married. All at once, there are loud shouts accompanied with booms and bangs as Captains Thad White. Mulder Brown, and Vernon Todd make their appearance. During their senior year Thad, Mulder, and Vernon joined the local National Guard unit, and shortly after their graduation, were mobilized and sent to Korea. The next to enter is Gerone Jordan. Gerone is manager of Yate's Turkey Farm, the world's largest. Curtisteen Smith and Russell Potter are the next to enter. Curtisteen and Russell have been going together for 10 years now but everyone believes Russell will soon get up the courage to ask Curtisteen the question. Jack Agerton and Ernest Chester burst in next, feeling good because they left their wives at home. Jack married Laverne Hill and took over his father’s construction business. Ernest married Shirley Hopkins and is operating a prosperous service station and garage. All women grabbed their male companions as Sonya Flirtatious Perkins flashes in, followed by her hen-pecked husband, Billy. Mrs. Perkins, the former Sonya
