Class History We began our Journey in 1938 with a large class. Mrs. Floyd Green was our teacher. Ellie Mclver thought the water fountains were unclean, so each day she brought a quart of water to school. Miss Kathleen Strange was our teacher in the Second Grade. Jane had to stand in the corner so much that Seniors still speak of the Jane Corner. Miss Sarah Howard was our teacher in the Third Grade. We went wild that year until she put her foot down--hard. After that, we watched her foot. In the Fourth Grade Mrs. Harrison was our teacher. This grade we shall never forget. We had spelling'everyday, and if we failed, we had to stay-in at noon. Miss Leary was waiting for us in the Fifth Grade. During the first six weeks she grew impatient with us and left. Mrs. Mears taught us then. Herman Rowan, from Sycamore, joined us in this grade. Mrs. Tommy Green taught us in the Sixth Grade. We thought we were smart, as we had caught up with that brilliant Reginald McPherson. Lilia Smith came in from Sycamore that year. We let her join us. Mrs. Carl Smith was our Sponsor in the Seventh Grade. Lynell Fletcher became a member of the Senior Band that year. In the Eighth Grade Mrs. Abel Strickland was our Home Room Teacher. This was our first year of changing classes, and we really acted like grown-ups. This was a hard year for us all, and many were left behind. In this grade we wore out several pairs of shoes, as we were sent out of the room several times a day for talking. We caught up with Robert Blount in this grade. Mrs. Abel Strickland was our Home Room Teacher in the Ninth Grade. Now we really felt our importance, as we were Freshmen. This year we had our first swimming party at Lake Mystic. Miss Rose Chandler was our Home Room Teacher in the Tenth Grade. Edith Cumbie came in from Grand Ridge that year. We were so busy working our way toward the Twelfth Grade that we remember very little about this grade. The next year we were Juniors and Miss Margaret Johnson was our sponsor. Our Junior year will be remembered because we had so much fun. Our Junior Play, “Amazing Gracie”, was quite a hit. We entertained the Seniors at Long Beach, in Panama City. We were joined this year by Ida Pearl Alday from Donaldsonville, Georgia, Robert Boyd from Madison, and Gene Faircloth from Faceville, Georgia. This year we had reached our goal. We were Seniors. We were sponsored by Mr. E. Forrest May. Our most exciting day was the day when we received our rings. Our Senior Play, “Cracked Nutts”, went over with a bang. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with the school faculty and the different organizations in our school. The memories of Greensboro High will always linger in our hearts. 13

Class Will We, the Senior Class of 1950, do hereby make our last will and testament. To the entire school we leave our courtesy and ambition. To the Juniors we leave our room, the walls of which are peeling off as a result of the constant arguments of Bob and Ida Pearl. Also we leave our books, which are badly abused, and our desks with everybody's initials carved on them. At last we make the following personal bequests: It Ida Pearl Alday, will my pretty teeth to Ellis Hill. I, Juanita Blount, will my ability to be a nurse to Earline Shiver. I, Margaret Blount, will my ability to catch a boy friend to Vergie Ola Eubanks. I, Robert Blount, will my courtesy and perseverance to Herbert Holland. I, Bob Boyd, will my place in Mr. Baker’s barber shop to Gainey Shores. (Son, let Mr. Baker cut your hair.) I, Ruby Chason, will my quiet ways to Virginia McGee. I, Edith Cumbie, will my good disposition to Buddy Rowan. I, Lynell Fletcher, will my winning smile to Welburn Rowan. I, Ellie Mclver, will my ability to play Delicious Appleby to Maggie Potter. I, Reginald McPherson, will my height to Burma Smith. I, Herman Rowan, will my ability to play basketball to Jimmie Kimbrel. I, Lilia Smith, will my ability to learn shorthand to Charlotte White. I, Jane Suber, will my versatility to Norma Bowen. 14
