For each individual here, the story is different and the outlook is varied. But some things will always be familiar to each of us basketball games, meals in Tilley ' s Diner , trips to Ham ' s, vigils in Men ' s Dorm. The 1 982 ECHO has tried to recapture a few of these familiar moments to you, hoping that they will help you to recall at least a part of the spirit of G.C., helping your memories to be one step closer to your heart. lis teflf 1 BH BB .■ m gmAT - ri  |M jl J SSiM M f% $ M rl 7 X wLmm ■ - pn jJL u m wH L Iw O . You contribute your time and patience above and beyond the call of duty to organize student life at G C. You possess admirable traits which you recognize and develop in students. Most of all, you understand the ways of students. It is because of your belief in G.C., and our belief in you, that we dedicate the 1982 issue of the ECHO to you, Wayne Stegail. Barrett President With the opening of the 1982 school year, the Greensboro College Community found that it had received not only a new President, but a new friend. Dr. James Barrett came to G.C in 1982 from Tennessee. He brought with him many new ideas for the college. It seems that he also brought with him a new air of comradeship and a stronger sense of closeness for the college community. Dr. Barrett has made himself available to the students. He has supported athletic, musical, drama, and other events and has encouraged others to do the same. He enjoys reading, French food and talking to people. If you have ever been in his office you know that he dislikes big desks because they separate him from the students. The Echo would like to take this time to officially welcome Dr. Barrett to our community. He has certainly he lped to make our campus life a step closer to togetherness. Super! The ECHO is the yearbook of the Student Government Association and is funded by the Student Body of Greensboro College, Greensboro, North Carolina. Poems Tomorrow and Aim for a Star are by Helen Lowrie Marshall and used by permission. Publisher — Jostens American Yearbook Company Publishing Consul- tant - Harry Thomas ' ECHO Volume 144, 1982. Well, I was right! At the beginning of this book I said that it would be impossible to completely capture everything that happens in one school year — it was. However, some events that were covered and should be here are not because of spoiled or lost film — for that I am sorry. When I began to write this, I sat down and read over some past editorials. They all seemed to be a place to complain or to make excuses. Believe it or not, I ' ve decided not to do that. I believe that a yearbook is the result of a combination of efforts made by individuals. Each individual can only expect out of something what he has put in it — whether through actual work, cooperation, or suggesting ideas. There are many people who have helped to make this book a reality. Finally the ECHO has become a group effort again. Thanks to all of those staff members who stuck it out to the end. You were all lifesavers! Special thanks to JW for always finding the time to listen to me — whether I was ecstatically happy or hysterically upset. Thanks to Sue, Lisa, John, and Melissa for taking pictures graduation weekend. Thanks also go to Dean Sherrill for his help this summer. This is your book. These are your memories. If the 1982 ECHO helps you to remember some of your hopes, dreams, and achievements from your G.C. days, then we have been successful. A poem by Helen Lowrie Marshall sums up the mood of this year ' s ECHO staff: Aim For A Star Aim for a star! Never be satisfied With a life that is less than the best, Failure lies only in not having tried — In keeping the soul suppressed. Aim for a star! Look up and away, And follow its beckoning beam. Make each Tomorrow a better Today — And don ' t be afraid to dream. Aim for a star, and keep your sights high! With a heartful of faith within, Your feet on the ground, and your eyes on the sky, Some day you are bound to win! May we all someday reach our own star! your editor, Judy ONE STEP CLOSER TO: HS Kodak ?
