CONTENTS People 7 Campus Life Part I 68 Clubs 98 Sports 142 Campus Life Part II 150 Graduation 194 Directory 206 It ' s the little unexpected things that make life inter- esting. Take for instance, becoming yearbook editor and then having last year ' s book dropped in your lap. I suppose, however, that it takes experiences like this to make life complete. I mean think of how bored my staff would have been at the beginning of this semes- ter if they had not have had last year ' s book to play with! Nonetheless, we, the 81-82 staff, take no responsibility for this book. We are )ust glad as you are that it finally arrived. We did the best with what we had (which wasn ' t much). I would like to thank my staff for helping me. They have proved the old saying, that you know who your real friends are when the chips are down . Special thanks to Loretta Sams for the endless typing hours she put in. Special thanks to the GC Community for being so patient. We ' re looking forward to a much better year this year. Hope you are too! Judy Jackson Editor, 81-82 Do you ever get the urge to skate ' I used to until I made a habit of cracking my bones everytime I put on the wheels. Anyway, lots of us did take the plunge this year and you can check it out on page 148. Can you imagine a Halloween without a keg party at Mens ' Neither can N We almost had to imagine it, but somehow the men came through, and we got our costume keg party! Not many ol us left sober, to check it out turn to page 92 We had our share of pageantry this year what with both the Miss Ms. G.C. pageants Beautiful and talented Jackie Brown took the title of Miss G.C and iohnita Williamson stole the crown from Donna Smith and Robin Robbins. For a hilarious update on the Ms. G.C. see page 76 Thats me and my assistant editor Barbara Stickley posing tor an old fashioned portrait, photo courtesy Phyliss Case of Lord and Case She came to photograph the reciepiants of Who ' s Who and made a killing with the rest of the students To see more of her work, turn to page 27 A friend took me to the Homecoming Dance this year and it was, as ever, wild and wonderful Jeanette Beaudry set up all the plans as usual and it was a smash ' It was the social event of the school year and |ust about everyone who was anyone attended Page 186 Don ' t forget the Spring Dance where LaUnah Cutty was crowned may Queen. Page 180. Office The last social event of the season was the Beach Party Sand was brought in, shoes were kicked oft, blankets and towels arrived, music pumped in and food provided. It was a blast ' See page 150 The special spread on Dungeons and Dragons is worth a few gold pieces to look into. It tries to give a little insight into the college fantasy game which is sweeping the country It also tries to convince you to play, alter all, you should try anything once, twice it you like it! Do a little adventuring on page 170. It you theatre thrills you as much as it does me, I think you ' ll en)oy the spot on it on page 121 This page means alot to me tor it is my page-a page to rant rave on or |ust be glad its finally over Everyone who came in contact with me this year heard something about YEARBOOK ' It was always on my mind I wanted it to be the best the best that I could achieve with my limited experience I believe that I have done that. I entered this |ob with NO experience, but I believe that I have left it with much A yearbook is not |ust what you see here the finished product, it is so much more For |ust one page you have to make 3 layouts, 3 copysheets, crop every picture and label it, index all people, place in an envelope and mail Think of the work tor 208! This was a hard |ob, but I enioyed every minute, every hour, every day that I was editor (really because I got my own office!) Well, all I have left to say is that you hold the final result in your hands, it is yours to condemn or to condone Accept it as it IS, tor as Ellyn Tucker once said Did you help ' A.J.S. A kTOUHEY ON TH( ROCKS The PEOPLE Section contains the Seniors, the Juniors, the Sophomores, the Freshmen, Dedication, Faculty and Administration-in other words, all of the people who make up GC, Being a Senior holds many connotations. It is a time of anticipation and a time of nostalgia. A Senior looks forward to entering a |ob. getting married or continuing his or her education. A Senior also realizes that college life will soon be past and looks back at all those experiences from earlier years. Tfie Class of 1981 has certainly made its contribution to G.C m its own special way. So, it is with pride that we introduce our Senior section which is concluded by a segment of our most outstanding Seniors. We can go out on shopping sprees and get lots of stuff in our cars, or in those of our friends. We can go home, or visit good friends with a car on the weekends. We can meet people in our cars, or in their cars. But without a car we can dream and look toward fun and excitement at Men ' s dorm. o Mq x[ i clmL.. Long, lean, all-white, tasteful. Man 100s. Betsy O ' Briant Joanie Osteen looked at the coliseum schedule for a good concert or flea market. Gordie Steadman made a very rare appearance down at breakfast and even on a Saturday!!! ON THE SCENE Our green and orange cafeteria did not change very mucti. The food was starch; the meat a mystery, and we still ate there. But, what else was new? The stage band gave us music to dine by on several occasions. SGA plagued us with an over abundance of campaign speeches. Mice and cockroaches entertained us during the other meals. Seven Biblical lessons were read by different students, Staff members, faculty members. Between each lesson were the beautiful sounds of the Burlington Boys Choir, and the G.C. Concert Choir. The Christ Candlelight passed from candle to candle among those attending from the campus and community. The many little flames lighted the crowded chapel and then moved out to surround the fountain before retiring into the Lea Center for a reception given by the Alumni for the Burlington Boys Choir, (starting top left) The G.C. But, Ronald Reagan was sworn into the office of President before the actual release of the long awaited event. The USA went wild!! Mobs of people Nation wide praised God for the release. Over a year ago, most of us here at G,C. wore white armbands in honor of the hostages. Later after one of the hostages ' wives put a yellow ribbon around an oak tree in her front yard. It became the fashion to use the yellow ribbons to celebrate the return. Yellow balloons and ribbons were abundant everywhere. Greensboro College gathered around the flag pole and sent off many yellow balloons into the misty gray air of the day. Incidently, has anyone noticed that our flag pole actually has a USA flag flying from it daily? We can thank 2 of our Army ROTC guys for that fine service done every morning and night. It deals, as a good play should, with the theme of lite: our every day decisions and how to make them. Peter Ott. Avis Mary are faced with great decisions. Peter has to chose between Mary (who is carrying his child and Avis (the woman he truly loves). Avis is faced with the problem of loving a man she can ' t have Mary has to decide whether or not she will give the child up for adoption. Peter shows up at Avis ' house where Mary is spending the summer in seclu- sion. One can imagine the turmoil this action causes! He takes a |ob with Avis is able to convince Mary to marry him. However. Peter is shown another side of Avis, one he likes tremendously and one he eventually falls in love with. Avis, in the mean- time, has come to the same conclu- sion and IS baffled by what to do. Marys ' parents arrive on the scene Mary (unaware of the situation be- tween Avis Peter) tells them of her man. Peter Ott. Peter then arrives drunk as a sot. The liquor gives him the courage to say that he doesn ' t want to marry their daughter and that he loves Avis. This causes an uproar that you wouldn ' t believe! Avis gives up her tiny resort business by telling Harry to shove it up his seat business and takes Peter. Mary gives the baby up for adoption and Peter has his Avis. The turnout was surprisingly large! Members of both sexes went stag, and many others went paired together for that Valentine ' s Day evening at the Royal Villa. The 4 member band Sugarcreek played for those who crowded the dance floor. At some times in the evening, the hard surfaced dance floor was so full, people were dancing all over the carpeted floor. While the band played and the people danced, anybody ' s hunger and thirst were satistied at the huge loaded food tables. Punch was there in large bowls. (Some say it got an unplanned for liquid ingredient that we shall not mention here). The refreshments consisted of delicious little meatballs, hotdogs, sandwiches, and chicken legs, as well as dip and potato chips. . i gWi tiu .
