ami T)ream... (above, left to right) Janice Ball gets a kiss. The Slug Trail Gang is reminiscing. (Julie Ansell. Manssa Saunders, Karen Holton) Tim Hamnch and Paula Webster get funky. A typical freshman after his first Dr. Grayson test. (above and left) The Big Apple Wooshl the dark — the blackout of 77. Memories haunt my mind of our early years, This time that seemed so long ago — So many, many years. The things that are in the past Have helped to shape our lives. It seems to me an endless struggle: For perfection we all strive. All the friends that I have made Have touched me deep inside. When I think of yesterday And the things I should have done, I know there is today. And things have just begun. '  Today is such a simple word. One often taken for granted, But to me it is a time For seeds to be planted. There are many things to do. So many places to go. And before we know it Friendships start to grow. Growing isn ' t easy — No one said it was. Just pull your chin up. And keep on trucking And all the finest things in life Are the ones that you won ' t miss. So today if I forgot to walk In someone else ' s shoes. To laugh with them in joy. And help them when they ' re blue. To smile at someone or hug a loving friend. Then I can be sure that there ' s a tomorrow For remembering again. I (left and below, left to right) Are my dentures on straight? (Debbie Shannon) Did someone say party? (Robin Matt) You mean this isn ' t a costume party? (Julia Bast, Laureen Moretz) Bottoms up. boysl (Daryl Rumple. Mike Schilling. Joey Morris) We ' re the hood ornaments. (Julie Ansell. Lori Ebinger) ' € jRo. ifl ' V V . M My life rushes on ahead of me. There is so much left to see. So many things to do, So much left for me. I want to explore, to be To laugh, to cry. There is so much more above me Than just the bright blue sky. I have really had some good times, But there will be more, For my goal is not the sun and moon, I ' m reaching for the stars. — Laura Moog The 1979-80 Echo is dedicated to Dr. John H. (And since said editor is tired, she will be brief and to the point.) The year was a good one, it passed quickly, and this book could not do justice to G.C. ' s many highs and lows. For that shortcoming I apologize) but somehow we managed to survive late nights in the office drawing layouts, long hours in the darkroom processing film, spoiled photographs, missed deadlines — all of the desperate, frustrat- ing moments — in order to see our way clear to the productive, final moments. I may not know until several years from now whether or not this undertaking was worthwhile) regardless, I can state that I have learned unforgettable lessons about people in general and about myself. I am grateful for that opportunity. So, students, reflect, ponder, and cherish the memories of G.C. which are spread before you on these pages. After all, you are the college — her past, her present, and her future. Remember, live, and dream with her in mind. Ellyn J. Tucker Editor Special Zkanks Although this book was largely one person ' s responsibility, its completion is due in part to the efforts of a handful of invaluable people. The editor wishes to extend special thanks to: Harry Thomas of Josten ' s American Yearbook Company for his constant support, advice, and wisdom) Craig Smith of Carolina Camera for speedy, efficient service and friendship!
