Snow, Snow, Snow A Poem From Martha A ten inch snowfall caused classes to be can- celed for the second time this year at G.C. on Fe- burary 19. Students took advantage of the oppor- tunity to frolic in the snow. Numerous snow- ball battles occurred along with more peaceful activities such as building snowmen and snow- hens. Sledding on cafete- ria trays was also popu- lar. Students had various reactions to the snow. One student from Florida said, It ' s fantastic! I love it! Another student, a New Jerseyite, remarked, Part of the reason I came south to school was to escape the hard win- ters. Now look what I ' ve got! The snow is pur- ported to be the worst of the decade. — LZ Do you remember your first day at G.C. When all those strange faces Were as lost as you were? Slowly those faces began to have names. And those names became more familiar. Before any of us knew it those names Resulted in long-lasting friendships. And now we realize that it is almost over. It ' s time to leave for a little while. Because it is time to move on . . . Yet our memories are always there. They allow us to look back and remember The echoes of these times. Cousteau Visits G.C. Jean-Michel Cousteau visited the G.C. campus on February 8. This son of the famous Jacques Cousteau gave a lecture in the Chapel entitled Project Ocean Search. Mr. Cousteau was a very entertaining speaker. Not only did his speech have a very heavy California- French accent, but also he had a very good sense of humor. One example of Mr. Cousteau ' s humor was the talk of the one road through the jungle island of Wuvula Island in the New Guinea ' s ter- ritory. That single road was called Highway num- ber one. Project Ocean Search is an expedition made by anyone interested in the trip. Through a slide show, the audience joined one of the expeditions which already consisted of teachers, housewives, divers, non-divers, and others both male and fe- male. The fifty or so peo- ple in the group lived in Downtown Wuvula which consisted of an all purpose house, three dorms, one supply medi- cal scientific house, a kitchen, and a bathhouse. Access to the island itself was by boat or by plane. A single dirt lane made up the National Air- port. Members of the expedition studied many different aspects of na- ture, both in the sea and on land. Classes were held on birds, reptiles, plants, and insects as well as sea life. Jean-Michel Cousteau ended his lec- ture with a beautiful movie of the coral reef and with a question- answer session. In all, it was a very entertaining and an educational lec- ture. — BS Some of you say, Joy is greater than sorrow, and others say, Nay, sorrow is the greater. But I say unto you. They are inseparable. — The Prophet Miss G.C. There was a Miss G.C. Pageant sponsored by the Greensboro College Jay- cees. It was held in the Odell Auditorium on February 17. The winner. Miss Angela Connor, will go to Raleigh to partici- pate in the Miss North Carolina Pageant. The first runner-up was Kelly Strawn. Second runner-up was Ernie Lee. Miss Congeniality was Jill Westerhoff. — JW On October 31, Halloween, Greens- boro College students and faculty will stage a talent show to bene- fit UNICEF. Talents presented will range from sublime to utter- ly ridiculous. Come out and support a wor- thy cause! Life is a bowl of cherries. Why do I get all the pits?
