We went to the Natural Science Center the other day and she got bitten on the hand by this retarded- looking deer. We went to the infirmary to see if she had rabies, but they diagnosed acute appendicitis. Does that sound right Mom? There are so many people here β€” over 700, can you believe it? I ' ve met some really strange people. I sure dread the first day of classes. They say Dr. Grayson ' s murder ! Well, gotta run. Say hello to the beach for me! Your loving son, Tom Β«? $i , ... . -m... Diar imoifiTi, l ui besn studying constintly,, Β£ My eyes are always red-looking from so much reading. It ' s the strangest thing. Maybe she ' s been too busy, but the maid hasn ' t gotten around to cleaning up my room yet. What ' ll I do if she doesn ' t show up? I ' m running out of clothes! Well, I still haven ' t seen the lovely, modern music building that they described in all the pamphlets. Maybe I just haven ' t been on that side of the campus yet. I need to run and help paint our laundry room. I ' ll write again soon. Love, Sally Ann, J. Fred and Perry ' ' , β– v memtoiiir ng girl nd summnr? Guess what! She ' s here and she ' s a cheerleader. She thinks I ' m really cute. I ' m taking her to Roy ' s after the game tonight. Our basketball team ' s really great if we can just win a game. This place is really starting to grow on me. I ' ve already missed seven Biology classes, but don ' t worry, I have an A+ average. r. . fm Oh Mom, I ' ve got some bad news for you. I can ' t come home for the family reunion next weekend. It ' s Homecoming here. I just can ' t miss it ' cause it ' s the biggest event of the year. I hope you understand. If it were any other time I could come. Send my love to the family. Tom P.S. Please send money. Dear imsinni,, liil until PDSKDiy! I went to the school ' s production of Ladies in Retirement the other night. There was a character in the play named LEONORA FISKE and she reminded me so much of you, especially the lovely red hair. You ' ll never guess what happened on Halloween. We had real trick- or-treaters right here in the dorm. We didn ' t have any candy to give them, so we passed out what little we had collected from the cafeteria: 4 dutch apple yogurts, 6 packs of crackers, 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, 3 bananas, and I don ' t know how many packages of sweet and low. ?S 7 Our rTlDthei; VΒ©y mould .jL It is so elegant! They ' ve just remodeled it, and it ' s called the Daisy and O.T. Fowler Memorial Dining Hall. Words simply can ' t describe it. The wallpaper is gorgeous, but the chandeliers are the highlight. The food is terrific, too. r V Β£ I ' m dating two guys but neither one knows about the other. One is on the golf team, the other on the soccer. Tom, the soccer player I told you about, and I have been studying together every night in his room. The campus here is beautiful. You ' d just love it. Every night after dinner we go sit outside and watch the sun set. Of course, the sunset is only an excuse to see all the good looking men around here. V Once we lost track of time while studying for a religion test, and now I have to go before Dorm Council. Don ' t worry, the first time you just get a warning. But guess what. That golfer I ' ve also dated some is on Dorm Council. What will I do? I ' ve gotten myself in a mess this time. I ' ll figure out something. Well, I gotta go study. Love ya, Sally Ann ? Oeiir IHnm, UJi had iimothEr Ici storm today. W - JUWl Of course it was our luck that we were the ONLY school open in Greensboro. I think the Dean must have bribed Duke Power and Light Company to keep our power from being turned off. Walking to class was worse than dodging the 5 p.m. New York traffic β€” you never knew how or when you ' d get hit by a falling limb or ice-cicle. A bunch of us tried out for Ice Capades in front of Main today. President Wilkinson was the judge. North Carolina weather sure is crazy, one day it ' s warm enough to play golf, the next it might be suitable for sledding. It doesn ' t compare to home, because Alaska is always the same β€” cold. Your loving son, Tom - J p.s. By the way, please ignore that unsatisfactory slip that came in the mail from my biology professor. Practically everybody else in the class got one too. I ' m doing lots better now. We start dissecting pigs tomorrow and I know I ' ll do great in that! ?yT Dedicated To Mr. Fred T.
