GREENSBORO COLLEGE GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA ECHO Published by the student body of Nineteen Hundred And Sixty -six Greensboro College, Greensboro, North Carolina The College— as we have come to know it— fused and filtered through each individual— object of criticism, apathy, and exhaltation, but ineluctably and unrelentingly making us what we are— molding values and lending ideas to guide us in the swirling awful process that is life. Old, yet ageless in its continuing stream— with beauty in its richness and its traditions— ■ VI I M m 1 H ■«: ! M W KT MM 1 111 L - ■ ™ ll ■ I 1 B HK«t 1 PI it 1 m  ■ ' K Page mi Unsatisfied to settle itli the strength or tradition, it expands and builds to Further her basic mission ol liberating the young mind. Steeped in the glory ol the past, its practices are modified and its Facilities increased to make our college the dynamic system a center of learning— thus of life— must be. Page Six Page Seven The People— reflect the college as they see themselves in it— giving of themselves, thus making of themselves. We are guided and learn to guide— giving and taking- teaching and learning. Page Nil £ jk tS i ■ p H n1 Their influence reaches beyond the classroom, beyond die campus— far and deep into the lives and hearts oi many. As one life touches another and it, in turn, touches another, a person may live forever. We, then, is the plural oi all that is me. We are the Colle°e. Page Eleven Academics— the ultimate purpose- much anxious mental labor in an at mosphere or dedication to the search for truth, of determination to the expansion of new visions and ol desire for the improvement of understanding. From these diligent hours of effort and concentration we seek the avenues of fellowship and need not look far distant for those of our kind. From the intellectual endeavor— the ease and joy of social exchange and the routine actions, paradoxically trivial and significant, we surmise the Greensboro College student— a unit in the continuity ol time. Page Thirteen The Day— a minute toiling segment of a seemingly interminable span of time in the educational pursuit— a segment represented by the pressure of a theme due, hours in the library, sunshine or rain, green day or gray, an empty mailbox, a full ash tray, a Coke, a blue book, red pills, a smile, a w ord, a I riend— recorded on the calendar and in the heart of one who knows. The ages of such segments which came before are ol little concern in the chaotic ones of the present, though they grant us the heritage that patterns today. It is in preparation lor the segments in the looming time ahead that we strive to keep the pace. In a day the introspective max sec the panorama ol a time vanished, and the reflective max sec a suggestive glimpse ol a time yet to be. I he advantage and opportunity is from our point ol view— presently— today. Page J Jaftfli Jt. I These things— what we make of them— are our becoming, our striving, our achieving, our failing, our learning, our being. In the fall we came as have those who came in many falls with visions and aspirations— with plans and resolutions— coming for the first memorable time or returning with joy and warm memories. Winter set in on us with deep snows and happy hours— the more to distinguish our year. On Winter Week-end the driven snow bore patterned prints, and the campus was abuzz with distressed chatter of those whose dates were kept across the miles. Page i ighteen 11 GREENSBORO COLLEGE The rirsi chartered col lege for women in North Carolina, 1838. Founded by Methodist Church • Spring revives us as it is burn from the labor of winter bringing cycling trips, long, happy walks and the very b reath of life and of Greensboro College in its buds, blossoms and sun-drenched green— restoring and reviving a sense of life ' s reality and identity— individually and universally. I hese things are our days here— our knowing ourselves and others and all in relation to each other and to time and space. This is our vision— from today— our concept- Greensboro College in its one hundred and twenty eighth year. It is to one of the best of these that our dedication is addressed. 1 o one who has exposed us to an incomparable dignity and discipline. Page One Hundred Severn. Dear Students, As you receive this yearbook, another school year is almost over. For some of you, this may be the last one. For others, the road ahead may seem almost too long. Wherever you stand, this year is almost gone and you cannot go back. You cannot change it . . You can only learn from it . . . and reflect upon it. In this 1966 ECHO, perhaps you can find the reflection that is closest to your memory of this year. Thank you for the part you have played in my year. Sincerely, Linda Watkins Editor, 1966 ECHO
