The Spirit of G. C. Varigated leaves ride the wind through an open door in Odell Audi- torium. Somewhat restlessly, they settle to the floor, listening to sounds of piano, voice, violin floating into the night. Leaves dance around the entrances to Arts and Science, the chapel, the library, the dorms . . . Varigated leaves, symbolic of the many experiences of college life . . . the cutting and shaping of Time ' s power on the timid Freshman, the confident Sophomore, the complacent Junior, the proud Senior . . . Symbolic of passing opportunity, pausing nervously just in front of us, allowing us just time to reach its brink and consider its values fleetingly . . . Whether to lend it to further development of our newly-discovered knowledge or to allow it to blow aimlessly with no root in human potentiality . . . Symbolic of the variety of individuals who pass through the doors of C. C, each finding a place to stop, to acquire, to participate before riding further into the wind.
