CLASS As my jet-mobile screeches to a halt be- fore the Miami Beach Hotel, fan exclusive establishment belonging to that hotel-restaur- ant monopolizer Richard Sledjeskil my eyes light upon the distinguished crowd entering under the proud banner bearing L'Grand Re- union - Class of 1958,'. I park my baby', behind an elegant ex- ample of the famous car designer Sandra Ap- pelt, and watch the horrified doorman greet Mary Lou Gagen, trailed by her three sets of twins. ln the lounge l find the famed filibus- ter, John Bakelaar lknown politically as the Pentagon Pacernj conversing with Pat Ber- dinka, the famous designer of the ucurvalurew pencil, and J ack Ryder, her business manager. They are discussing the scandal rumored of Alice Vail, the U.S. ambassador to Switzer- land, who has, it is said, eloped with a moun- tain climber. They are soon joined by George Wetmore, chief arbitrator at the U.N., and William Sullivan of Sullivan Enterprises, Inc. l leave the lounge after greeting Barbara Blados, co-editor of Mad magazine, and Andy Ignotowicz, president of Kodak Co. By the swimming pool I find Marion Hulse, Welk's new champagne lady , Diane Powers, the nightclub blues singer, and John Madsen, 1965's answer to Presley, combining their tal- ents to the amusement of William Hanff, who now sings soprano with the Metropolitan Op- era. ln the pool I see Linda Thomas of Aqua- cade fame, Karen Wilson, the coach of Ameri- ca's only all-girl football team, Nate Goldin fyes, HE who has taken Hollywood by stormj , and Marge Hiddink who runs an exclusive boys' school. There are Ned Payne, AXP man- agerg Marianne Rinehart, nurse of the yearn, Anna Marie Hope, the movie starlet, and Eu- gene Moisa, owner of Orient Farms, lnc., all listening to their jovial host joke with Bob Howard, manager of the Harlem Globetrotters, Richard Breese, and Jack Skrezec, rival coaches of the Army and Navy football teams. I enter the bar, order one of Henry Car- lozzi's pizzas, fthose succulent delicacies which have captured the American appetitej 24
